With the amount of harness meetings on each and every week I have been worried about the race horse numbers and the amount of races that are held. Once again I notice that nominations have been left open for Westport and Ashburton. Who knows how Gore will go when theirs close tomorrow.
At this time of the year most trainers have their team ready for the holiday programmes but with the same 'pool' of horses racing most weeks it no wonder we are struggling to fill fields.
Our governing bodies in their wisdom seem to think that wall to wall racing (all codes) is the answer to bringing the betting public on board and perhaps it does to a certain extent but with our horse population racing horses every week against mostly the same horses doesn't seem sustainable ??
As other entertainment industries have found out, not always is more better.
