I have a Safely Kept half-sister to Distant Memory. Foaled late, first live foal, wasn’t going to breed this season but we may try one straw.
The mare’s best performing sibling, Distant Memory, is by Troublemaker (Most Happy Fella). Another successful sibling is Sahara Miss by Village Jasper (Jate Lobell…Most Happy Fella)

As this mare is by Safely Kept, the Jate Lobell… Most Happy Fella seems to stand out.

Type and confirmation wise this mare is 16hh, strong body, fine in the legs, in some ways thoroughbred like, high top end speed.

Your suggestions on a stallion would be appreciated.

As a broodmare sire, Safely Kept has crossed extremely well with Cam Fella and in particular Cams Card Shark stallions.

Depending on your budget, you could look at Bettors Delight, Bettorthancheddar, Aces and Sevens, Armbro Operative, Presidential Ball

G'day Harvey,

Appreciate your thoughts very much. Had actually taken a bit of a look at Cams Card Shark stallions/descendants on the Pepper Tree site before I posted. http://classicfamilies.net/CF/Descendants.aspx?HorseID=10002547&Type=Sire
Had been chatting to one of the local stud masters about their Cams Card Shark stallions.

One of the major concerns is I'm thinking this mare will always throw decent sized off spring so will wade through stallion sizes, preferring to steer clear of potentially too big... fingers crossed. Any knowledge you might like to pass on in that regard would be appreciated.

None of those are renowned for throwing big types. In fact, most Bettors Delight's and Aces n Sevens would be on the smaller side.

Bettorthancheddar is an unknown as this is his first season as stud. However, he is a good sized horse so he might thrown bigger types.

Another thing to consider is that generally speaking a mare's first foal is smaller than subsequent ones.

Hope this helps and you get a superstar from your foal!

Roll With Joe will give you a high quality Cam Fella stallion (if that is what you desire) at a reasonable price.
He was a very good racehorse (USTA 3YO of the Year) and is a full brother to Bettors Delight, from the outstanding broodmare Classic Wish.
His first foals are showing a lot of quality.

Thanks again Harvey,

Bettors, yep knew he threw to smaller. Still considering options, scanned this morning have another couple of days.

Have foaled quite a few down over the years and yes the first foal thing but hadn't experienced that size before. First foal we've ever lost but not silly enough to say never again. Allowing for some exaggeration at 4am, but three vets and two other successful/experienced trainer/breeders called to help, all still talking about him.

Am tending toward the Cam/Happy line.

And thanks heaps, looking forward to clashing on the track in the future.

G'day Trevor,

Thanks. Had taken more than a couple of looks at him when visiting the Pepper Tree site and yes the Classic Wish side noted.

Always enters into the equation, proven versus outstanding prospective new sire. Am pretty convinced this mare will always throw big. In as much, big racehorses. (Hopefully race horses).

Have a couple of more days to consider.

I Have a safely kept mare who has done ok in the breeding barn, has just come back positive to betterthancheddar. Also grinfromeartoear maybe another option..as that cross has thrown a few handy ones.

Thanks Lisa,

Have made an enquiry re Betterthancheddar. We looked at, but steered away from, Grinners last season, might be too much to order a smaller colt from him or a rocknrolla.
