View Full Version : Snappy debut by Shark Gesture 2yo filly

If you get a chance watch the replay of Race 3 at Cobram today.
A 2yo Shark Gesture filly 1st starter came from the back line and made an impressive late charge from motherless at the rear of the field through quarters of 28.9 & 28.8...went down by just a meter & a bit on the line, 1:58.6 for the 1670m. Gesturestar is her name, from a Nero's BB mare. Puppet was in the bike for breeder/owner & trainer. S. G Smith. One for the Black Book.

Hey Triple

Just watched the replay and that filly went super for it's first start and to take ground off them going 4 wide on the bend in a 28.8 quarter. Looks to have a bit of size about her as well and will be short in the odd's department next start.

She'd be deadly at Menangle. Pull out, balance up, aim up and then let loose.

At this fillies only 2nd trial I watched her spot lettucereason (2nd in Leeton breeders plate and good winner at menangle last saturday) a fair margin and run her to 2mtrs in a 28.4 last qrt.
Been a big fan of the filly and her run the other day was enormous. only had 3 trials and stable works 2 x horses, will improve quite a deal from that run on monday.

G'day Chopper,

I think she might prove herself to be right up there with the best of them. That's how impressed I was anyway. My initial interest in her was by way of being a fan of her sire. We've got a good looking & well related 2yo filly by him that unfortunately will never race because of a bad knee but she'll be bred from this coming season. She's a very similar style of horse to Gesturestar, good sized, the same colour & all. I like the horse's chances and there have been a few whispers that he's coming back down here for the 2011/12 season, fingers crossed.

With darryl perrot throwing everything but the seat at her should be able to see just how good she is. Possibly dance for maddi could knock her off?

triplev123
05-16-2011, 09:50 PM
No idea Rem. I don't know the driver at all. Dance For Maddi goes well though I believe.

remington
05-16-2011, 11:54 PM
you only have to stand on the home turn of wagga pace way watching a race with darryl driving to understand, switch the draw and i think dance for maddi is the one to beat only because its not the longest straight at wagga but if Gesturestar is leading on the home turn hard to see her getting beat

mango
05-17-2011, 08:02 AM
Hi Remington

I think Darryl knows the track inside and out and if Dance For Maddi isn't up the front on the last turn she is in trouble, it's a leaders track and very few horses can make ground on the last turn and then with the short straight it makes things harder.

Hey Chopper

Were those trials on the Wagga track.

It seems she is a good chance on thursday, her first run was great and now that i no she has trialled on the track i might be dipping into my pocket for a little dabble if the odds aren't to short.

remington
05-17-2011, 09:34 PM
i think you should get decent odds on her, due to the quality of trainers that have a horse engaged in the race imo

triplev123
05-20-2011, 01:42 PM
Can't say I wasn't warned. Not the best drive in the world. Why old mate would just hang back and let the leader walk the first half is anyone's guess. That's a filly that gives plenty and needs to be driven a bit more up-tempo than the way she was last night. He damned near put her to sleep.

really not sure what darryl was thinking was a rather unusual race. i herd a small rumour that this filly might be joining the geoff robson stable. Also the times last night that were run were extremely slow the last race they went 2.06

That is correct remington. In fact, the race in question was the fastest of the night, so I don't think there is too much room for criticizing the driver of Gesturestar not forcing a faster pace.

Yeh...you're probably right there Eliteblood. Gifting Steve Harris a totally uncontested lead and letting him dawdle through the 1st half in a pedestrian 63.3...around Wagga....was nothing short of an inspired piece of driving.:rolleyes::rolleyes:

Only caught brief glimpses of last night's racing live, both here in Oz & over in NZ, but the replays were worth watching. It was HUGE night for Bettor's Delight. A big-time Quinella in the NZ Oaks & the 1st 5 across the line in the last, both at Addington as well as 3yo winners at Bathurst & Gloucester Park and both Semi Finals of the VicBred Super Series 3yo fillies.

Hey Triple

Bettor's is sure on fire and i'd say will be for a long time to come as he has covered some nice books of mare's. It goes to show that the size of a stallion doesn't matter, i was one who always worried about the size of the stallion but now it's selecting the right size mare to send to them.

J douglas has the drive....

shame T.Robson is one of the best up and commers in the district , i've seen him drive plenty of differnt horses and get them home from anywhere, i would think his strike rate would be the best of anyone in his class for his experience level .. i cant understand why he dosen't get more drives

Hi All,

My name is Ty Robson., Geoff's son.

Great to see so much interest in this filly.

Jimmy D is driving tomorrow night (Thursday) as I'm only a B grade driver and cannot drive her in the Breeders Challenge (B/C) final if she happens to make it. So Jimmy D will be driving her tomorrow night for experience, and will be on her agin next saturday at menangle in the semi-finals of the B/C.

She's a really nice filly Ty and I really hope I will be able to get out to Menangle to see that race. The best part of a 1/4 mile home stretch out there will be right up her alley... because if I've got her right it won't intimidate her, she'll just keep on coming.

Smurf
06-02-2011, 11:18 AM
Ty good to see you join, what is your strike rate out of curiosity ? it's good to see you have the best interests of the filly and its owners not many people like you left most these days want all the glory that comes with the good ones they can get...

its a credit to you and your father keep it up and i hope she wins plenty

It's great to see a Shark Gesture 2yo have its first win - congratulations to the connections. Fifi Rocks (another Shark Gesture filly) ran 3rd to a smart one in Sensational Gabby (1.58.4) at Gloucester Park on Tuesday night. Also this Saturday night Spot The Shark (2yo colt) has its first run at Gloucester Park. I have an interest in a Shark Gesture filly that (hopefully) will race as a 2yo (more about that later). Going on the Australian Stud Book, Shark Gesture served 37 mares with 18 live foals - I have tracked down 13 so far and I am wondering if the filly with the bung knee is out of Thurstons Dream. Repeating - it's great to see the first winner from Shark Gesture.

Filly went nice and still has plenty of room for improvement.

After looking at the photos of Shark Gesture, she is a double.

I have rang EMPIRE, whom have not rang me back, to see if he will be coming out this season. Is anyone aware if he is?

Ty

triplev123
06-03-2011, 12:05 PM
Yeh, they're good pics. I thought maybe Ty might like to see what the filly's old man looked like.
Drivers in those pics are George Brennan (in the red & black) and Tim Tetrick (in the green & yellow).
The guy standing beside the horse in the unharnessed shots in the green & white with yellow stars is his trainer, Larry Remmen. Before the horse came down here for the first time he was trained by Erv Miller and driven by George Brennan.

triplev123
06-03-2011, 12:34 PM
I understand it's touch & go if he comes or not Ty and he probably wouldn't go back to Empire but anything could happen. He might still come to Oz or he might go to NZ...or he might not come down at all. The Owner/s is not/are not the easiest to deal with and on top of that, as great a race horse as he was & as good a sire as I think he will ultimately be, from a Southern Hemisphere stud perspective initially he'd be a somewhat difficult sell because right at the moment he doesn't have a high profile. I hope he comes down but I think it might be one of those things where the Studs down here will wait and see what his 1st crop does in the US/CAN. They went under the hammer back in August/September of 2010 so they should start racing later this year sometime.

I see that he picked Gesturestar as his 'one to follow' on In The Gig' this week.
I guess we can forgive Tappy for being a bit slow off the mark and quite frankly, in the end I'm relieved it wasn't The Minty Men...as in Adam 'The Kiss Of Death' Hamilton or Mick 'The Handbreak' Guerin...putting her forward. The way those guys tip... they could stop a runaway Bus.

Huh?? Have been mystified why this thread was ever started in the first place and even more puzzled why it has continued to now with so many ongoing posts.

I hope that it can now be put to rest with another rather ordinary run just now by Gesturestar. Surely she's a "fair" 2YO but not worth all this attempted hype that some are putting forward in this thread. In fact , overall this whole thread is rather puzzling :-(

mango
07-01-2011, 08:44 AM
Was thinking that myself. Maybe some part owners or vested interest perhaps?

Know part owners on here it's just after seeing her first run and being one of the first to race by first season sire Shark Gesture it was a filly that a few of us thought would go onto bigger thing's. John Tapp on In The Gig even selected her for his tip of the week when she won at Penrith.

G'day Damien,

Yeh, I thought he was pretty sharp. He got her 1st time too. The mare's a big, raw boned bugger just like her old man and she's also a bit of a meat head too...he was a bit that way himself but with it a seriously hard arsed horse on the race track...so above all else I thought she needed Shadow Playt's structural refinement etc, IMO.
In the foal, if we get Shadow Play's conformation, athleticism, high speed and gait and we get Shark Gesture's 'you'll have to shoot me to stop me' attitude...we might get ourselves a star. Fingers crossed.
Would you mind if I took a temporary dive on the Art Official thing?
