I spoke to Tony Herlihy this morning and he believed Lex and Heather Williams - the owners of One Over Kenny - should have been compensated for the starting blunder in yesterday's (Monday october 25) feature trot at Ashburton.

Within an hour of the interview, Harness Racing New Zealand agreed to pay the fine to the Williams.

This is what I wrote:

Whilst in principle this is great, they are setting a very dangerous precedent

So now does this mean the next time someone makes a honest mistake, like maybe Tony driving a horse that he hits a wheel on and gallops (just an example as Tony is not likely to hit many wheels) and the horse gallops or is checked, will the fine go to the owner of the horse/s involved. Very dangerous precedent to set.

This is fair enough. I was at the meeting and saw him shake his hands at the starter long before the mobile took off. It was a huge race for the mare and so getting the $200 is a very small price for what she could have won. Where on earth was the starter looking coming up the straight? Because clearly it wasnt at the horses

given what the club, connections and punters who got put onto springbank richard for all exotic bets the $200 fine for the starter seems pretty light!

Did the horses gear break or malfunction causing the horse to break or did the horse break causing the gear problem?

Before or after the horse broke?
