I doubt I'll be spending much time haunting John & Neil's Folly...what with a World Class 1400m track which comes complete with the best prizemoney in the Southern Hemisphere, right here in my own backyard...and all.

Maybe they could save up and train people to help visitors to get to the racetrack. I have related in a earlier post how I asked 1,678 people how to get to the track and NO one knew. Spent the night watching them at the casino. I am coming over in a couple of weeks and have directions this time!!!

I've heard that too from other visitors to Victoria. The Melton track seems to be one of Victoria's hidden "attractions" , very hidden , it seems.

Not many locals even know it exists :-( What's that all about?

might be a good thing the melton locals dont know about it.

Can't sit on the sidelines on this one any longer. I am thrilled with the cash influx in to NSW and Menangle racing. I think it will have a wonderful impact short term for NSW and for the whole country. I just hope that it doesn't disguise some of the real issues which face the industry in NSW in the longer term. The sale of the sports biggest asset should not be a smokscreen for the debacle that has been Harness Racing in NSW for the last 10 years. Racing for $8000 for half of a Metro card and celebrating Bad Bert and River Khan as the leading sires should never be forgotten. One wonders how the sport would have been sustained had it not been for Victoria's leadership in EVERY facet of the industry. Maintaining reasonable stakes at Metro and Country venues, growing a breeding industry and providing profitable racing opportunities in very difficult times. Whilst NSW admnisitrators sat by with fingers crossed hoping for regulators to enable the sale of their golden goose, Victoria was proactively trying to build its own home. It may not be a palace, but credit where it is due!! I am sure that previous posters would concede that had Harold Park not been sold, there would scarcely remain a professional Harness trainer or driver in NSW within 3 years. Please excuse my parochialism!

You do realise HP didnt suddenly grow in value to $150million overnight, don't you?
If we are going to live in the past and criticise then why did HRV go to Moonee Valley instead of their own set-up. I don't know the answer but either up until that time they didn't have the cash (which indicates NSW was better run until that point) or they lacked foresight.
Imagine how far ahead the industry would be in Victoria if they had their own track even 20-30 years ago but hindsight doesn't help after the fact.

Hey Breno,

When I read that piece from Termite I was instantly transported South of the Border.

I had this overwhelming urge to put on a pair of Moleskins,

Hahaha where on earth do you get the time and energy from to provide all these giggles. Be careful though; the mighty Carlton Blues are from south of the Murray :)

Probably should just stick to following your below average 2 year old fillies by Shark Gesture I reckon.

LCL I believe your local GP can help you with that pinched nerve of yours.

Careful Breno. LCL can stand for a lot of things.
Le Credit Lyonnais; Lincoln City Library; Labour Contract Law ;Lateral Collateral Ligament ;Less than Container Load ;Lazarus Component Library ;Liberal Country League ;Lymphoblastoid Cell Line ;Lower Control Limit ;Lifted Condensation Level or it could be the Canadian Food Retailer...Loblaw Companies Limited.
You need to be more specific. :p

If it was Lower Control Limit then that sums me up pretty well

Here, here Termite! Meltons a great facility for harness racing. We frequent it often. It has its faults but they are ironing them out. Don't know a roof on the stand is a high priority though. Not like your sitting in it all night as you would be at 'The G'. Having frequented Moonee Valley as well, Melton is streets and streets ahead as far as harness racing is concerned. Its not that hard to find. Right next to a major freeway with an exit right at the front door of the track.

Menagle has a world class track but don't know the facilities can be described as such. My young son and I travelled to Menangle last year for the Miracle Mile. He too a big harness racing fan and big Smoken Up fan and was 'reward' for his efforts at school. My first time and "Trip of a lifetime" for son and we had a ball. They could have raced it in a paddock somewhere, wouldn't have mattered to us.

But we too got blank stares when asking where the track was. Even from the lady on reception at the hotel we stayed at near the track (the one advertised on Menagle website). We got there extra early so getting in no problem. Getting out another experience. 1 prehistoric one-way exit from car park. Got a bit 'messy' when someone trying to get in with horse truck as crowd was leaving. And no direct access to freeway. Guess it can cope with the normal race crowd so tipping not a high priority problem either. Didn't spoil our trip anyway and we'll be back again this year. Great racing and great track. Maybe a little less 'tactical' than racing at Melton (due track size I guess) but great to watch.

Congratulations to HRV for not going ahead if funds not there. Would rather see what funds there are invested into the participants of the industry.

Does anyone know who did bid?

Hi Toohard

Don't take this as gospel but i think N.S.W and W.A were the only 2 to bid.
