With the amount of harness meetings on each and every week I have been worried about the race horse numbers and the amount of races that are held. Once again I notice that nominations have been left open for Westport and Ashburton. Who knows how...
Having been at Roxbrough yesterday I watched a great peice of horsemanship when DexterDunn, driving Capitol Drive were "flicked" out at the start. Dexter held on to the reins and was dragged down the track and into the inside of the track across...
What is the thoughts of everyone on drivers having their own colours instead of the driver wearing the trainers colours. As a owner/trainer I love seeing my colours out there but on occasions have worn the sponsors colours when asked and really I...
Last week in the Northern Southland Cup there was a protest put in when Beaudine Bad Babe was denied room in the passing lane. Whatever the reason the descison was made and its history, however afterwards Brent Shirley the driver of Vi Et Animo...
Over the past 2 weeks with the Inters on I have been watching them on Trackside. I have a relation staying who years ago was a avid Harness racing Supporter and in fact was part owner of 2-3 horses. Over the past 10 years he has lived in the UK so...
With Terror To Love winning last night it has made the NZ Cup winner as clear as a chocolate milkshake. If Smokin Up arrives, he will clearly be the one to beat otherwise I don't think I have seen any horse announce that he/she will be a clear...
Congratulations to John and Robbie and their double in the Breeders yesterday, it was a wonderful acheivement. Two nice horses who were trained to the minute aided by one of the best drivers around. Well done team!
Race 1 at Ashburton............Dexter won on his first drive back. He simply carries on as if he has never been away. :D
With Cup week done and dusted there seems to be a passing of the torch from our well established horses: Monkey King, Power Of Tara, Springfield Richard, Sovereignty etc onto the new and just as exciting horses like, Terror To Love, Franco Emirate,...
Nice to have the catalogue out. It's my favourite reading over the Christmas break!!;)
Sad to hear the passing of one the stalwarts of harness racing in Doug Mangos. I vividly remember having a punt on Doug's horses when they graced a field. Doug trained and drove some nice horses over the years. He will be missed.
Neat race coming up on Saturday. The added bonus is last years winner De Lovely drawing 1. For mine, it will be Bettor Cover Lover to win well.
Anyone got any thoughts on the competition so far. While I haven't seen every race the couple I did see were very ordinary in terms of driving. The concept is a great one though and I hope it continues to grow internationally. Go Steve Philips!!
Two stalwarts of harness racing have passed away recently, Bryce Buchanan and Jim Smith. Both were great horsemen that had forgotten more than most of us had learned and both were what makes our industry what it is. Like thousands of others, I was...
Another champion bows out for well deserved retirement. What a great wee character he was and epitomised everything a champion has, speed, strength and a will to win. Have a great retirement wee guy.
Should be a terrific race- Can Smoken Up go one better? What is everyone tipping??
The 1960 Inter Dominion cup. It was one of Caduceus' great races, and there is a lot that has been printed about the race. After five previous attempts, with Jack Litten finally driving him, Caduceus finally won the race over coming a 36 yard...
