That was some win by 2yo filly Rockinwithattitude (and by Valerie Lane) as she would have beaten the boys by 45m (3.3 secs)
Her MR of 1.57.9 is only 2.5 secs outside the Open Tk Rec

The colts were slower but there were some big runs - Moonwalka 3 wide without cover for 1400m and Watts Up Partytime was out there too but did have cover.
The Locomotive did very well to win considering the mistake he made down the back and Stevie Gee was badly held up and could have made it interesting

Not a bad little 6 horse field in R.12 at Shep tonight
Winner Hopeful Beauty set a new Shep Tk Rec for the mile = 1.55.2
https://www.harness.org.au/racing/fi...23#SPC15022307
Poor Plymouth, they will need to make bone scans a regular for him if he comes back
https://www.thetrots.com.au/news/art...bb-once-again/
14 horses (6 ODS) in a Mile Stand at Menangle could have been a recipe for disaster but they ALL stepped away and we only saw a couple of brief mistakes during the race - impressive

Two NZ champs have had time called on their racing careers in the past week. Super trotter Sundees Sun bowed out winning a second NZ Horse of the Year award last Saturday night while the old champ Temporale, well known in Victoria, had trainer Michelle Wallis say enough this week.
Sundees Sun won 34 of his 71 starts and $1,401,000 while Temporale won 27 of his 94 starts and $837,777. Oh, to own one half as good as either of them!
The 2yo trot at Maryborough today gives us the opportunity to compare two first start winners. It is very early days but they were both impressive on debut. There are four first starters in the race too
https://www.harness.org.au/racing/fi...23#MHC10042309
Well one totally blew the start (along with half the field) while the other was upstaged by Peter Manning's debutante
We await the sectionals but Queen Elida was 15m off the pace at 800m so instead of 56.8 for the last half, she had to have run 55.7?
https://www.harness.org.au/racing/fi...23#MXM15042309
55.45 according to this
https://www.thetrots.com.au/news/art...ls-a-new-star/
She was giving Ultimate Stride five lengths after they settled into single file but stormed home in a 27.4-second third quarter and 28.06-second final quarter for a stunning 55.45-second last half, almost two seconds quicker than any of her rivals.
Adam Hamilton's article on what an achievement it is for Just Believe to be invited to the Elitlopp and what a huge achievement it would be to just make the final

I have not found a definitive photo or any relevant info but I am thinking that Centurion ATM must have been small - some of his progeny look to be pony size on my screen
Volstead got his first AND second winner in Oz at Maryborough today, siring the winners of two of the Platinum Home Grown Classic heats. He had only had 2 to the track (3 starts in total) before today. Today he had 4 first starters (plus one other) for 2 wins and a most impressive (unlucky to be checked) third.
https://www.harness.org.au/racing/fi...s/?mc=MH120523
When you explore his pedigree, you can see why he is likely to be a success
https://classicfamilies.dev/details/FLSTT10173230
Thanks Brendan - that is a good size
My memory really must be going - here is a thread where I posted quite a bit about him
https://www.harnessracingforum.com/s...-Centurion-ATM
Another winner for Volstead in the $36k Young Guns trotters final in NZ last night
https://harness.hrnz.co.nz/gws/ws/r/...rSite&Arg=TRUE
and his Violet Stanford just won the 2yo Fillies Platinum Final at Melton
https://www.harness.org.au/racing/fi...23#MXM20052309
oops - I should have said he Quinellaed the Final (he has only had a handful of starters in Oz and NZ)
Orlando Vici is the hot sire (Just Believe)
At Charlton today he had 3 in R4 and finished 1-2-3
Stewart first starter Royal Dan started what seemed a crazy $1.55 (a trotter having its first start!)
but maybe we can see why as it it made a break shortly after the start and lost mega metres but eventually tacked on and stormed down the home str for 3rd
His 3rd dam is La Coocaracha

Half Brothers Mattyo and Caseys Diamond contest the same race at Geelong tonight (as they did at the club's last meeting)
They are also half bros to John Meade's topliner Sparkling Success
https://www.harness.org.au/form.cfm?...rc=GEC31052309
I believe Royal Dan won the last at Maryborough but if you want to see it for yourself you will have to wait until tomorrow for Maryborough is the ultimate 'hick' track (without decent internet) and they do not go up until tomorrow
AND for reason unknown we don't even have any TAB fallback for the replay of this race
https://www.harness.org.au/racing/fi...23#MHC02062310
PP gets stuck into the 'trots' today. Here is the title of his opinion piece:
Square Gaiting is a Stupid Sport, and it should be Banished to Boort
https://www.harness.org.au/media-roo...?news_id=61449
Aldebaran Zeus Books Ticket To New York For MGM Yonkers International Trot
I didn't think his form was up to this
How big and leggy did 2yo filly The Priestess look winning by 34m on debut at Kilmore tonight
https://www.harness.org.au/racing/fi...23#KIC06072311
She is a half sister to Cover Of Darkness and Illawong Moonbeam
Prince of Rock who won the $125k 3yo Colts final at Bendigo tonight is another from THE Maori family
It is amazing to think that Maoris Idol who won 40 from 44 with 4 places, never won $100k
Relative of course, I know from being there, that $98k would have bought you 4 nice units so pushing up around $2m in today's money
https://www.harness.org.au/racing/fi...23#BNC11082307
The Shep Trotters Cup tonight along with a Trotters Oaks and a Trotters Classic for 2yo's
https://www.harness.org.au/racing/fi...s/?mc=SP250823
Too easy for the Lang stable 1-2-3
It is only a 2190m Cup and after drawing wide you cannot blame Chris for sitting back when his other two runners had the best spots up front
https://www.harness.org.au/racing/fi...23#SPC25082306
In the Oaks, NZer High Energy made it 7 wins from 8 starts and she will add a bit of interest to the Rockinwithattitude and My Name Is Susan clashes to come
Aldebaran Zeus went OK in The International Trot at Yonkers. I wouldn't go around claiming we are 5th in the world LOL
https://www.thetrots.com.au/news/art...ud-at-yonkers/
The winner ran 2.23.1 for 1¼m. If that is accurate that would be a MR of 1.54.5 on the half mile track
The Melton Tk Rec for 2240m is 1.55.4
Black and Gold Emergency for N55 tomorrow. Couldn't even get a start in that, but is in the FFA Friday night.
The Vic Trotters Derby heats are being held at Maryborough in about 45 minutes
https://www.harness.org.au/racing/fi...23#MHC22102303
You're almost compelled to follow the trotters nowadays.
Two meets and 17 races in Vic today
8 trots, 9 pacing
and No, there was no Maryborough meeting
Tonight at Ballarat will be Mufasa Metro's 41st start since coming from NZ
Subtract the 3 starts where he was off a handicap
In the other 38 starts he has Drawn No.1 a total of 9 times
That is about 24% of the possible times
This is One Lucky Horse
Luckily we have trots vision to fall back on as getting trots races away on time seems to be a real problem (no doubt they are being shafted to Sky2)
The Wedderburn Trotters Cup at Maryborough yesterday took several attempts (the tapes may have been a contributing factor)
The 1st leg of the Quaddie at Melton today (a 3yo+ Maiden Trot for a leg of the Quaddie!) didn't get away until the 4th attempt
Dan might get in trouble for saying "to the cheers of the 11 people on track"
It is an all trotting program at Melton on Saturday night but at least we have 4 good pacing races at Geelong on Friday night
Strangely TAB not showing Fluctuations but the current odds for the Grand Prix rematch are:
Just Believe $1.50
Callmethebreeze $2.90
I know which one is more attractive
https://www.harness.org.au/racing/fi...24#MXM24022401
Well it may be that Callmethebreeze will only be a threat to Just Believe over the mile
Arcee Phoenix is the heir apparent over any trip - 3yrs younger and with only 31 starts under his belt (CS has always planned long term with him)
Callmethebreeze is 2½yrs younger and I may be being hasty as he has won over a trip O/S (and some suggestion he choked down tonight)
https://www.harness.org.au/racing/fi...24#MXM24022401
In the post race interview you could see how relieved Greg was to have won as he knew he had got out of gaol after allowing himself to be pocketed on the fence
I think the Goudie family would be tickled pink at the recent form of Chief Runningcloud
The now 9yo was bred by Peter Goudie
After being most inconsistent for the last 4yrs the Chief has had 5 wins and 4 seconds from 12 starts in the last 5mths for David Waite
https://www.harness.org.au/racing/fi...24#PCC12032411
Nutrien Finals night at Melton has proved a big one for Volstead with him siring the winners of 3 of the 4 races!
How was it that he only sired one foal in 2022?
Wow a 100m handicap and only over 2150m - that is something you don't see every day!
I wish Trevor was still with us as he would remember if he knew of a bigger handicap
https://www.harness.org.au/racing/fi...24#BNC14052409
Tune in tomorrow night - such handicaps create interest
