I think the movie "War Horse" named after him.
Was at Albion Park last October, specifically to watch Terrorway go around in the Be Good Johnny Sprint, little did I realise he was only going to be a bit player that night. Destreos sat parked for half the race before allowing Terrorway roll to the death. Urged along down the back, off the bit on the bend, Destreos pulled three wide and put them all away...had to be one of his finest wins in 1.52.9 if you don't mind. I was down on the fence as they thundered past me, but for the length of the straight, the only thing I could hear were his connections perched in the top right hand corner of the grandstand screaming their guts out for him. The fact he was 33/1 that night may well have contributed to their volume. Now James, were you one of those noisy bastards drowning out Barsby that night lol?
Replay of that race http://www.harness.org.au/meeting-re...ld#APM06101204
haha Brad...I was at the local watering hole that night...I had $10 a win on him so I was very vocal also..& for a few hours after that too I might add..
after yesterday...........339 - 75 - 57 - 50
What a tough grand horse is Destreos! Great stuff!
FREAK....start number 357 & runs a PB winning in 1:52 at Albion Park
Hi James, Astonishing how he keeps on keeping on, Would love to have 1 just like him, I will Update his stats soon. Danno has a great story about Destreos and his Breeder and with a bit of luck, He will repeat it for those who missed it the first time.
Danno's Destreos story,
The missus and I were holidaying in NZ during the Interdom carnival in 2011, one night at the Club on the grounds of Alexandra Park I bumped into a really nice bloke, Bob McAuley, who told me he had sold the horse Destreos to Australia after having a more lucrative sale to US interests fall through due to the horse failing the VET TEST, there was a perceived soundness issue!!
At the time Bob was bit dark about the whole thing because the horse had been racing in OZ for a couple of years and won over 100K, you can well imagine how dark he is now the horse has raced on like he has.....anyway I don't think I will ever trust the vet test, it obviously couldn't have been more wrong!
cheers,
Dan
It's a Great story Dan, Thanks mate. Destreos is just about bulletproof and you really have to be feeling for the Breeder.
Destreos wins again tonight at Redcliffe!!!
He may not be a superstar, but geez isn't he a Champion in his own right! He is racing in devastating form ATM! Hope he had a few more wins to come :)
77 wins, Imagine if you had a photo for every win, You would need a complete new very large extension on your house but it would be well and truly worthwhile.
Just outside Funny Boy's Track Record.
win number 79 yesterday in 1:52:8..!!!!!!!!...
364 starts
79 wins
59 seconds
55 thirds
FREAK..!!!!!!!!!!
Destreos does it again, Win No 81 in a career best 1.51.9 at Albion Park today.
I read a tweet last night from bloodstock agent Garrick Knight; he said that in 2008 a deal had been done to sell Destreos to the USA but it fell through because the vet report queried his soundness. 350 starts later...
Freakish...
Horses like Destreos are rare to come by! What a great horse and as I've said before, a Champion in his own right!
Welcome back Ev :D
Hi Kev. How you been mate? I don't comment much as I once did, but I still lurk to view the info on here.
You're doing a fantastic job being the main, or one of the main contributors on here!
If Trigger was still racing, I'd be posting left right & centre, & getting into trouble along the way haha :)
He sure is a Freak of the Creek!!! Go Destreos! What a beauty he is indeed!!
82 wins and still going strong, Might be our next Centurion and that's a real rarity these days.
Undoubtedly the toughest horse in either code, and to still be running those very quick times at his age.
Another win by Destreos on Saturday night.
an absolute marvel ;
Horse Class M18 C66 R66

Last Season Summary 50-7-3-8
This Season Summary 6-2-2-0

Win 90 at start 400! Think he deserves a beer.
If he can win 35 of his next 100 starts he can get his winning percentage up to 25% ;)
Guess this wasn't in the script. Bit unfortunate if it ends up as the last chapter of the story. Will definitely leave a question mark there.

Win Number 100 for the old boy on the 20/04/18, Many congrats to the connections
Incredible horse, 100th win at his 450(!) race start. 71 seconds and 64 thirds to boot.
I doubt whether he has actually done any fast work over the last decade, just a matter of racing him. As a rising 15 year old, it would be fitting to call time now.
A wonderful old war-horse, and to quote the title of a Slim Dusty song, it's time to "Leave Him in the Long Yard".
