New harness.org.au site being trialled
https://beta.harness.org.au/
The Beta site looks much improved in presentation and quite easy to navigate.
I have found what I believe to be a massive fault with the new site.
Which WA especially needs to fix
When you click on WA - under the States tab at the top of the page or the RWWA icon at the bottom of the page you DON'T go to a trots page
Clicks on Victoria, SA or NSW at the top or bottom of page always takes you to a harness page
WA never does while QLD and TAS only do from the top menu not the icons

The mobile site doesn't have trainer or driver for results. Is breeder really that important? Plus it wastes valuable space putting 'by and 'out of'
Stewards report links back to the old site
Not an app person myself but thanks Charlie, on behalf of Katie and others
This may have been stated somewhere and I just missed it but does anybody know where the odds are coming from?
I am guessing they are just an estimate by an assessor - I am somewhat surprised there is not an * explaining what they are
Was just trying to watch a replay from results, you need to turn screen sideways to read full results. If you push replay you get a stamp sized screen that cannot be enlarged. You have go back and put screen upright and then push replay then you can get full screen and turn it sideways. This needs to be fixed. The text is easier to read than the old site but there are many gremlins that should have been fixed before launch. This is on the mobile site.
You're right. It even has a small icon to show users to do that. Guess I was quick to judge.
What I never understood, and is a function that has carried over, is the 'Horse Search' function whereby you click on a horse that is racing and it takes you to the Horse Search page where you can see the horse's racing record, instead of the HRA Online page. This means if you want to check a horse's breeding from that page, it's an extra click or two to get to HRA to see progeny.
Looked up the results of Menangle yesterday & race 9 still has the field & NO result......really http://www.harness.org.au/racing/fie...s/?mc=PC190917
When viewing fields for a meeting it used to list the schedule with race names and class up the top so you could skim the top and see Rc6 was the open class event at Gloucester Park and skip straight to it without having to scroll through every field. I miss those 5 seconds it saved me.
So only one or two positive points mentioned about the new site. I have probably only explored 50% of the site so far but am convinced it was developed by those people that did the "digital upgrade" in the ABC show "Utopia" !
I wish I had 'snipped' an old results page so I could do a direct comparison
It does look brighter/cleaner - did the old results have ads down the sides? LOL I just refreshed the page and I got some ads
However I am not finding it easy reading. Suggestions would be to embolden all the horse names and maybe have the first three in another colour (black?) to stand out
I'm pretty sure there were ads. The background was black/grey so they were likely less noticeable.

I don't mind the adds on the site as long as they are for harness racing products and not intrusive . But I do find the banner across the replays very annoying. It's usually Empire Stallions who I have used several times and found them to be great to deal with but this annoying add is making me think twice about using them in future ! Is that the type of result they want from an ad ? There is a time and a place for adds but over a replay is not one off them in my opinion.
This does explain a few things https://www.harness.org.au/media-roo...?news_id=34866
It should be easier in future to deliver enhancements & complete maintenance with an upgrade of Technology. 2008 technology would have been struggling to keep up with the Tablet functionality of today.
Obviously a heap of teething issues but I'm sure the only way is up ;)
It also makes it possible to track users. The more you can track them, the more you know about them, the more you know what parts of the site are visited, the more you know what's of importance to them, the greater insights the industry has to tailor racing to that
The best thing in that article was that it didn't cost any extra money. So the new site is aimed at mobile devices, fair enough, that is also where most of the glitches are ! I must admit I found the old mobile site unusable and was forced to use the desktop version on my phone. Not showing all the information on the upright screen and having to rotate your screen may be common on some sites but that doesn't make it good. Car Jackings are common now but that doesn't make them good ! But you should not have to go back to the upright position just so you can watch a full screen replay ! I understand that an upgrade was needed to keep up with changing technology but I would have preferred if they could have stuck to the old look and layout of the old site.
I have a new computer with plenty of grunt but since the new website was introduced it is very slow to load up, I hope this does not continue. I am sure it is not a problem with my PC.
After about race 8 I was checking fields again for Wagga and it was a lottery as to whether the prior races were showing the fields or the results.
I personally would prefer it if there was a Fields page that continued to be just that even after the race has been run
Brendan, the new mobile site is a big improvement on the old one. Just a few bugs that they are working on. I was using the desk top version on my phones for many years . It worked very well on phones but required some zooming in to read properly. Pity we couldn't have the new mobile site and the old desk top site together.
Has everyone noticed how with the failed no whip rule and the new website that there was zero consultation with participants/users ? It would have been nice to be told what would be disappearing and what would be added to the new site ! Were we asked what were the best features of the old site and what parts needed improvement ? No ! I don't count being given a preview of the new site and being asked for feedback as consultation because all the decisions had already been made. Just seems to be the way now ! Seems they have learned little from the industry meetings with participants.
I know that the people developing the new site are trying their best and are actually contacting people who are having issues . I have no issues with them, they seem to be doing a good job. Even Microsoft launch products with many problems. It's whoever keeps making decisions with no consultation that is our industries biggest problem !
Anyone else experience the loss of the main menu bar? If this is meant to be, how do we access things like Stewards Reports and Horse Search now?
Can anyone tell me how to watch replays in the results section, using a computer, now only photo finish. It was so easy before.
anybody having trouble with the streaming speeds of the race replays.almost impossible to watch a vic replay, all other states just fine,no problems at all.
Thankfully Form Guides are the old format because fields no longer tell you how the field was determined eg Restricted to horses with no more than ........
The site seems to be having major problems right now (7.35pm Sunday) . Almost unusable for me on desktop. Takes 30 seconds to change page. can't open any result pages. Anyone else having the same trouble ?
I'm just glad that these web page designers don't make airplanes.
Service Unavailable won every race at Mildura tonight !
I'm finding I don't go on the site as much, nor read the news headlines. Not sure what it is, it's not that I dislike the new site..
Katie, I have to agree with you that I'm doing the same.
When I go to the site on the desktop I am greeted with a photo taking up half the screen under that there are adds and the top part of the photos of the top stories. I get zero news or info without scrolling down. The cover photo is way too big and the top story headlines and fields for the day need to be visible when you open the page, you should not have to scroll down to see these.
The adds used to be along the top and down the sides, now they take the prime position and are very intrusive. In this day and age of the "I want everything quickly" generation you need to attract peoples attention quickly. I mainly go there each morning to check where today's meetings are, now I have to scroll down to find them and they don't stand out as much as they used to.
I read that hits to the site went up when it changed but I bet that was just people checking out the new profile, I would be very surprised if the figures continue to be higher than the old site. I know personally I now very rarely check the fields and have been wagering less. Hardly what the new site was meant to achieve. But that's just my experience and others may be doing the opposite.
On the up side I get most of the news from this site now !
They are listening - good to see a summary of the program at the top of the fields now
Kevin, they are listening I will give them credit for that. They actually emailed me for more details about issues I was having and they welcome suggestions on ways to improve the site. They always reply to emails too. The site is defiantly improving but I still miss the old one !
