I was just reading on the USTA website that Jeff Gural has announced that he is going to make horse's sired by 4yr old's not eligable for the Meadowlands Pace, W.N. Reynolds memorial and some other race's as he wants horses to race for longer.
That's just plain ridiculous. Fancy knocking out the first crop of a sire who retires at the end of their 3yo season. Never heard of something sop bloody stupid in all my life. JG...three cheers for saving The Big M mate but on this one, go soak your head.
Good for him wanting horses to race longer, I agree with him. I don't think he's going about the right way. Instead of placing those sorts of restrictions, the aged races should just be worth more money like in the Southern Hemisphere. That's why we keep racing ours, for MM, Inter, Hunter Cup, Vic Cup, NZ Cup & Auckland Cup prizemoney. Over there they have more prizemoney for 2-3yos. Reverse that trend and horses should race longer...
