I don't think the Stand Down rule applies if they are scratched prior to acceptance time. There is usually a $40 charge for a "look' if you withdraw your nomination prior to closure of acceptances. When you move into fields , then its stand down or vets etc if the horse is scratched. The Barrier draw for the Kilmore Cup is PBD/$L4 and that information for each horse is available on the Noms . Both of those horses would have high $L4 so maybe connections decided to pass .

Neither are stood down, I also thought manual field selection didn't take precedence over preference for existing over late moms so connections either withdrew before acceptances or there were sufficient nominations to make up the field from the earlier entries. Only the trainers or owners view of Harnessweb will tell you which.

Seems to be some talk about the very limited discretion used by the handicappers in allocating handicaps for the trotters cup.

Yep Kev, I realised you had access to harnesweb, hence it wasn't a question.
On late noms and viewing stand down status. Pretty sure anyone registered for harnessweb can view but thinking about it more, if they are stood down it may not show until after the meeting is run i.e. horses are stood down for the various periods from midnight of the meeting date. A horse could scratch from tomorrow, and cop a stand down, but can be a runner in a race today.

On scratching without penalty prior to release of fields, my understanding is once you've entered as a late nom (acceptances extended) scratching penalties will apply from the original acceptance time, the same as all horses nominated. That would be reasonable as all noms could scratch with a $40 fee and no stand down prior to the extended acceptance time which could decimate field numbers.

Watching the Cup, I was reminded of Katie's recent post in another thread which suggested harness racing looks dull - sorry

Whilst I'd often agree Kev, I couldn't for the Kilmore Cup, but perhaps I was more atune to the nuances, it was obvious Im The Boss was pulling in front and that had to raise the question of whether he'd hold on or be swamped, but hold on he did and easily in the end. Was also thinking Kima was heading towards a great ID series, with Im The Boss and Wrappers Delight, albeit likely with sore arms!

I think having a 'stable' to follow would make it more interesting

Probably true for all pursuits Kev, but ones eye for the nuances of a sport regardless of who they follow is probably what makes it the most interesting. Perhaps it's time you put your hand up for a share in one Kev, or spent a little time in a stable helping out, most would be grateful for a little help, may pique your interest a little more. But as I said earlier it is difficult for harness racing to stand out like it once did in our now very fast paced technicolor digital world.
