    Mister Zion

Did anyone else notice Mister Zion engaged in a trotters race at Melton on Fri night?
    Interesting....

Heard he has been impressive in a couple of recent trot trials.

Anyone think of another well-known horse , who did well as a pacer , and was just as good as a trotter?

Mount Eden. I can only think of 1 horse that raced well as a trotter and pacer and that was a horse called Third Spot. Was trained by Les Dewhirst for memory. But probably not well known!

Adam Hamilton talked about this on trackside radio here in NZ at the weekend. He trots real good but there could be a chance he comes to NZ as he can revert back to a low class trot whereas in Aust you have to race at the same grade.

Strietross was one in NZ that got near to top grade in both gaits

[VVV] It's going back a fair way now but Raider could Trot just as well as he could Pace and Medoro was a Trotting bred stallion that sired a heap of Pacers. Can't think of a dual gaited top end performer in recent times.

Absolutely ridiculous rule in my opinion that a horse keeps his C12 M4 class and converts to T12 TM4
    He should be a TO!
New gait, first race against Squaregaiters, fairs fair...
But good luck to him, has run some amazing times in his trials so far, but what a challenge first up as a Trotter against that lot!

There was a horse over here in Adelaide in the early 90's, Roamn Rung when I was growing up who was an average pacer, 7 wins over a few seasons, who switched from Pacing to Trotting at the age of 6 after about 50 starts.

Proceeded to race through his classes, won 7 of his 10 trotting races that campaign from as handicaps as great as 80 metres, and in his 3 defeats he twice galloped hopelessly and broke down in his final start. Went from restricted class to winning Trotters FFA's beating the likes of Game Ebony within 3 months.

Broke down and had over 12 months off and was never the same.

Although he never raced as a pacer the Healys believed that Maoris Idol could pace as well as he trot. There were pictures of him in the Herald Sun at the time with the hopples on.

As for Mister Zion G Webster sounded impressed on the radio the other day with Mister Zion's change and he is a genius. However as was said above it will be a big ask first up against a full field of 14 that has horses coming off the front, 10m, 20m, 30, and 40m. He wont want to be in two minds from tapes as he will be up to his eyeballs in horses.

It looks like this could be a good year for the open class trotters as far as depth goes. In the coming weeks to be added to Friday nights field are Sundons Gift, Down under muscles, Letmethru, I Didnt do it, Lets get serious, Aleppo sunrise, Miss Warbucks, Armed Guard, Lenny Lewis, Danny Bouchea, Arizona Blue and any other NSW trotter that will be good enough.

    Great start to Squaregaiting...

Excellent effort by Mr Zion in his first race as aTrotter against Open Class Group 1 quality.
From 10m settled back in the field after a safe standing start
4 back the pegs and dragged back a little at the 450, weeved his way thru the pack passing more than half the field in the last 200 to finish 6th. He was definitely finishing fastest in that 200 of any horse in the field (Sassy Pinevale similar).
Can't wait for his next run, based on that, with luck in running he definitely has a chance at picking up a Group 1 event as a Trotter. Yes he will need luck cos Sundons Gift will be around and Let Me Thru added too, but on that first effort, what will his 5th effort be like????
Great run Danny Cash first up from ID in NZ, in the death last lap, did it easy.
    Exciting trotting races ahead!!!
