Thanks to the same old poster for sending me this link to the Newcastle Herald which explains why the Cross team were late

I have been sent Cobbity Farm's tweets on the matter
They are understandably very disappointed as they loaded and left as soon as HRNSW informed them to expect traffic delays
In the wash up they say they were only 6 minutes outside the deadline of 2 hours

Some fantastic mile racing scheduled for Menangle on Saturday
Just look at the 'ordinary' $20k R1 for starters

    Miracle Mile and qualifiers

Both Self Assured and Chase Auckland have been scratched from Saturday night's qualifier and the rest of the carnival. Full story is on All Stars website. It is feared Chase Auckland may have fractured his pelvis in trackwork while Self Assured has a foot abscess, which would have been brewing for some time. He is flying home to Christchurch next Tuesday.

I suspect he will only have a couple of weeks off as three Group One four year old races over the next two months, the Taylor Mile, Messenger and Harness Jewels, appear to be at his mercy. Not a Miracle Mile, but not a bad way to finish off the season all the same.

Fancy a 1.49.8 from Bright Energy and he isn't even in the top 22 seeds tonight. Probably hard pressed to kick one out of the heats from him too.

King of Swing and Code Bailey massive.

They really need to have Nat driving on these big nights. Was she originally down for Chase Auckland and/or Self Assured?

Must admit quarters didn't really give the others much chance.

Field Marshall isn't quite the same horse.

Chariots, Newcastle Mile and Top 2 from races tonight qualify

    1 Lochinvar Art
    2 Majordan
    3 King of Swing
    4 Code Bailey
    5 Alta Orlando
    6 Field Marshall

    Leaves two spots

A Gs White Socks a third tonight and a great season should get in.
Hail Christian was flying late tonight and in the Newcastle Mile so he should get in two for mine.

Black Prince and Sicario emergencies on basis next closest finishers in the qualifiers.

I know it was set up by the Q1 burn but it was still nice to see Bright Energy come from behind instead of all the leader dominated races

    Lochinvar Art $3.00
    King of Swing $5.00
    Majordan $5.00
    Code Bailey $7.00
    Alta Orlando $9.00
    Hail Christian $11.00
    A Gs White Socks $13.00
    Field Marshall $21.00

Based on my field selection being correct this is what I'd have the market at pre draw
