$4.30 the win adds weight to the argument the mental health of punters suffers under lockdowns. General Dodge the favourite? I had an old Dodge ute that I used to hitch the jogger to and it used to cough and splutter around the home turn too.

Amazing Dream went into this race with four Gp 1 wins at this race distance or further and NINE Gp 1's in total, not eight as peddled by Jason Bonnington. Maybe his previous job was in a sawmill? Plus 2 x $150k sales finals. Not too shabby for a technically 4 year old mare. Tonight was her 40th race start, 23 wins, 7 seconds and 6 thirds. The furthest she has finished back is 5th which was in the NZ Free for All in which she never saw daylight. That was her first try in open company! From all of that, she has earned around $32,500 per start.

The next richest earner in the field was Triple Eight, $407k from 67 starts, less than a third of the mare's $1.252k. The last time they met he ran 7th to Amazing Dream in the Auckland Cup.

There have been a lot of Furphys about the great mare, the biggest being she doesn't have gate speed. She blew that theory into the weeds in her two big wins in Queensland in better company. Tonight she came out as quick as the traffic allowed and was always going to be hard to beat by the first turn. Just needed to sit 3 wide without cover the last 1000 in 54.6! The Victoria Cup in a fortnight should be a ripper but I doubt the 2150 metre distance will suit her. Whoops, another Furphy when you consider most her wins have been between 1980 and 2200 metres.

Perhaps punters might one day work out this mare is seriously special.
