Blayney is gearing up for it's time in the sun.........

BLAYNEY'S Harness Racing Club will hold its first meeting of the season this Saturday, February 18.The club only holds two meetings each year and Saturday's meet will be a pipe opener for the Carnival of Cups meeting on Sunday March 4.
On Saturday the club will hold heats for Class 0 horses, with the final worth $5,000 at the carnival of cups meeting.
The cup meeting will be the second running of the Bill Soo Memorial, which will be worth $5,000 plus a cup and rug.
The Carnival of Cups will be the club's first ever TAB meeting that will go to air all over Australia.
The theme for the day is "Be Bright in Blayney" so race-goers are urged to wear bright colours on the day.

Urge anyone that comes along to drop by the canteen for a steak sandwich, but don't complain about the way the big fella cooks them because that will upset me

Where is Blayney, thought that was overseas somewhere!!!! No seriously though good luck for your day, these days make Harness Racing very enjoyable to be involved in and that is something that HRV got wrong. There was nothing like going to the picnics like Elmore on Boxing day etc.

VERY good Pie Shop in Blayney. Award winning in fact.
I don't much care for Pies as such but their Sasuage Rolls & Cornish Pasties are pretty damned good, especially on a cold day.

Isn't that a touch coincidental.........the missus works at the pie shop in town........has done so for the past 7-8 years.
Been busy the last few weekends cleaning, painting, building camera stands, etc, etc, etc. Even conscripted the kids into the painting last weekend, and they'll be busy helping out on the day. It is a good venue with good facilities and if the weather doesn't turn too sour you can nearly guarantee a good day out. The programming seems to have worked out pretty good with some interesting races to test the form experts.

    Looking Back

I think everyone left Blayney last Saturday feeling that the meeting had been a success.
Haven't seen the official figures but have been told that the Tote held over $12,000 on the day, the bookies held over $10,000. Gate was $1,300 and the canteen took in $2,100 running out of everything just prior to the last.
Heard some comments during the day that there were more people at Blayney than at Menangle the previous night and that the crowd was bigger than most Wednesdays at Bathurst. The racing was a bit rough and ready which is to be expected with the grade of horses competing, but a few good ones showed everyone how it should be done
Everyone is now excited about the upcoming Carnival of Cups meeting where the increased prizemoney will see better horses making the journey to Blayney.

I don't worry about mentioning the track as around 3-4 years ago Blayney started hosting the Australian Long Track Championships for the motorcycles. It is held in November and every year the track gets graded off for it, then graded back and top dressed to bring it back up. One of the benefits of working with the community as this is done by the Council out of the monies received from the Long Track people. Plus we have two committeemen, Peter Davis and Peter Marshall, who look after the track year in, year out and they do a great job of having it in tip top order. Always great if we decide to head into town to fast work for a change
