    Thumbs down Politics and Sport

Does anyone else think that this sort of "party political" broadcast coming out of HRV is a little on the nose?

If there are votes in it, these pollies will make the most every photo opportunity. Politics and sport are defacto bed fellows with a long history. They make the most of each others company when it suits them. In the past there have been some spectacular public break-ups like the Moscow Olympics, the apartheid in S. Africa for rugby and cricket etc. But when the two get back together again, the romance grow, the sparks fly, promises are made, unions are declared and the relationship is again betrothed to each other.

It is the way of the world Lenny. Sickening in the fact that once a government honours a commitment, know that it will want its pound of flesh and we will have to bear it.

But look at the upshot for all those small communitys who now have the trots back in their own back yard...I suspect there are a lot of happier people in parts of rural Victoria. What would have happened if the current gov't walked away from their promise? Nothing. Absolutely nothing, so I would say thank God for small mercys and grin and bear it through the speeches.

    Cheers

[VVV] Depends on your political of view Lenny.
The previous State Government found many a mate secreted within the upper echelons of HRV who were more than willing to blow a trumpet on their behalf...so as odorous as it is...it's not a whole lot more than a squaring of accounts in that respect. Remember the bowing and scraping and genuflecting and sicophantic fawning that went on prior to, during and post the construction of Melton. Guess who's Federal Electorate it lies within? I'll give you a few clues. Red hair, test pilot for a broom factory, tells porkies as easily as breathing.
No different to what happened here in NSW with the largely State Labor 'Jobs for the Boys' debacle that was the Board of the thankfully now defunct GHRRA.
Personally, I don't much care for Politicians of any persuasion getting their heads in shot when there's a big race/match/event on but trying to keep the bastards away is like trying to hold back the tide with a broom.

My position is one of principle and has nthing to do with my own particular political pursuasion.
I am not at all naive about politicians "pork barelling." My gripe is not with the pollies trying to win support or influence but with the blatant handing out of "how to vote" cards by a supposedly a-political, publicly funded body such as HRV.

Not too sure about the how-to-vote-card thing Lenny, HRV should be distancing themselves from this type of activity, they should indeed be SEEN to be a-political.

I love politicians...right up to the point when they actually speak...thats when they lose me.
