Hi Chaps, I'm back. I couldn't remember my old details so I've assumed a slightly different identity.
Saturday was my first meeting back in Oz, the Stand Starts for the Trotters later on were comical.
Supper Waltz Wilson 10m ? It looks more like 30m to me, perhaps more. I wasn't on him but clearly the starter lost sight of him. He might be EOD but that's no excuse. The EOD horses off the front were inside the 10m tape. SWW should of been right up the backside of those horses not 20m+ away. If he misses a place the trainer / driver probably approaches the stewards about an unfair start. Does he win the race from 10m not 30-35m ? perhaps not, but the stewards, no mention of it in their report, were asleep at the wheel.
The start of the last race was a farce and there's not a lot more to add other than that.
If Standing Starts are a problem in NSW, perhaps the Starter and Stewards need as much practice with them as the horses competing in them. That wasn't good enough on Saturday.

Having a mechanical starting system might be a good start...
Rather than all the track lads taking turns at holding the strands and hopefully letting them go at the same time!!!

Will be trackside for the big dance only and even in its current form am still looking very much forward to it.
