Harness Racing New South Wales (HRNSW) today concluded an inquiry into a report received from the Australian Racing Forensic Laboratory (ARFL) that TCO2, at a level greater than 36 millimoles per litre in plasma, had been detected in a pre race blood sample taken from OUR ICARUS NZ prior to it competing in race 8, the SEW EURODRIVE PACE (1609 metres) at TABCORP Park Menangle on Tuesday 27 August 2013.
The “B” sample had been confirmed by the Racing Analytical Services Limited in Victoria.
Trainer Mr T Pullicino pleaded guilty to charge under AHRR 190 (1) (2) (4) for presenting OUR ICARUS NZ to race at Menangle on Tuesday 27 August 2013 not free of a prohibited substance.
In consideration of penalty HRNSW Stewards took into account the following:
Mr Pullicino’s guilty plea
Mr Pullicino’s record which shows that this was his fourth (4th) offence in relation to a breach of the prohibited substance rules all pertaining to elevated levels of TCO2
HRNSW Penalty Guidelines for prohibited substances
Mr Pullicino’s personal circumstances
Mr Pullicino was disqualified for a period of twelve (12) years effective immediately and will expire at midnight 5 September 2025.
Acting under the provisions of Australian Harness Racing Rule 195, OUR ICARUS NZ was disqualified from the race referred to above.
