An interesting race for 2yo's & 3yo's at Melton tonight
The 3yo's gave the 2yo's 30m start but it was the 2yo's who were better behaved
3rd placegetter Kaudo has been slow away and spotted the leaders all of 50m before motoring home to only be beaten by 4m

You can tell that Dan thinks a bit of Quality Sunset, runner-up at Ballarat today
Mind you he was not that kind in saying she probably lost 10m when she made a break - at least double that IMO

I was surprised to see the track that wet as Ballarat had only had ¼inch of rain up to that point of the day (and virtually nothing in the 2 days before)

It will be interesting if she makes the grade due to her unusual breeding
Her pacing sire Quality Cam has only produced 35 foals in 10yrs at Melton Stud in QLD (mostly homebreds)
Her broodmare sire Last Sunset, may be the key
Does anybody know why he only stood for 2 seasons?

Last Sunset was promoted to glory, to use Salvation Army terminology. Carked it.

His record ended up pretty good for a trotting sire - from only 41 foals he ended up with 10% earning $150k+

I am watching a few more than usual and catching up on things
Tip Top Grandpa who has only had 9 starts in this his debut season has had a win and 2 seconds in his last three AND HE IS A 10yo
You won't see that at the gallops

Saw an article where Butt said horse had fired up and he was worried about it choking down so opted to just let it run.

Thinking they may be regretting the gear change going into the race.
Backfired a bit.
Shows how superior the horse was to still win, horse has always been brilliant and is only getting better every week(maybe not last night) could be the next trotting superstar.
Can not think of a current 3 yo anywhere in the country that will match him in 6 months time.
Happy to be proven wrong if anyone can think of one.

How are punters expected to a) back it when last 5 has paid no competitive part or b) back against it on the chance it puts it together and beats their horse.

After 8 performances where it wrecked its own chances t it was finally SD1T last start but the trial doesn't appear in the form guide. Then when you do go searching for it the trial was in a last mile of 2.07 last half 65. Hardly race pressure.

The first 4 races at Menangle today were trots
How big a day did Blake Fitzpatrick have in those 4 races
He had 7 trotters in for 3 wins , 2 seconds , 1 third & 1 fourth.
Not a bad days work
