The meadowlands pace just won in 1.46.4. Equalling the all ages world record. Unbelievable!

Why is it that our horses just cannot get anywhere near the times of the best American horses? Better breeding or bigger and faster surfaces?

Leah Almahurst's family U7 and she features on the top and bottom line of He's Watching's pedigree

ps Owner purchased him as a yearling 2yrs ago for $3k! Service fee is around $US8k out here - much less a yearling from that family, mind you it is not an especially strong arm of the family but you only have to go back a couple of gen to find Mr Feelgood and Western Ideal

His pedigree features a double cross of two great mares, Leah Almahurst and Three Diamonds along with a dash of Golden Miss thrown in for good measure.

The fact they can use lasix and bute is a massive help. They also breed a heap more horses, so theirs more chance of finding a champion. Also the fact that every major buss drug has comes from usa makes you wonder how many of these past and present great horses are doing this on ability alone.

I don't know that we are that far off but I think there are a few factors:
Size and quality of track - we could have plenty < 1.50 with their tracks (I do not want them however as trotting needs to offer a closer experience than galloping for a point of difference)
    Possibly their drug enforcement
The fact that they provide the desired stallions in AU/NZ means if you want some significant duplication of a stallions pedigree on your bottom line (eg Leah in He's Watching) then you need a US mare close up in your damline and I am not sure that AU/NZ has procured that many from the better families (yet)

The U7 Family has a lot of nice stallions and stallion prospects. I had a look at Classic Families and most of the high profile stallions have clicked very nicely with mares from their very own (U7) maternal family and can see no reason why Western Ideal, Art Major, American Ideal or even the younger prospects wouldn't work well with Life Sign, DM Dilinger or even What's Next mares, Duplications of Leah Alamurst and Three Diamonds should work very nicely in particular. The U20 family stallions have worked quite well with mares from their same maternal family with the duplication of Golden Miss proving all powerful.
