The comments are regarding track work fella as is indicated by the highlighted section. I've spent a bit of time in a harness stable, I can certainly tell you there are times when there aren't a lot of horses in the stable and people are looking for something to do, particularly when things aren't going well! Boys were probably getting paid peanuts.
