    HRV Marketing Tangent

No worries, Dan. Keep an eye on HRV's media channels and publications; we're keen to get more views from trainers/drivers out to the fans on more topics than ever before.

Sure Kevin. Getting the "not yet fans" into the sport is obviously vital.

Just a few things people will hopefully have noticed; free-to-air advertising for our recent Summer of Glory Carnival, an increased social media presence via Twitter and Facebook in the last six months, more media exposure across all platforms including Channel 9 News in Melbourne and Win News in rural areas, RSN (we are getting more RSN exposure than ever before with our people on Winners with Nadia Horne every day and often on Racing Ahead with Shane Anderson and the breakfast show), we have our own talent hosting Sky Racing on Friday and Saturday nights (Jason Bonnington and Gareth Hall leading the way), we have managed to increase the exposure we're getting through newspapers with four-page carnival lift-outs and feature stories (such as the Emma Stewart item written by Matt Stewart) - this is obviously an ongoing battle however and there is always room in our opinion for far more trots news in the daily papers, we also get a dedicated space in the weekly Melton Leader newspaper as well as coverage in local papers all across the state, we've had billboards and flags along freeways with colourful advertising campaigns designed by our dedicated graphic artist Craig (who I think is the best in the business, just quietly), a weekly digital email subscription service promoting the weekend ahead, regular coverage of all meetings via harness.org.au including links to video replays and results on our written articles etc, we're working closely with the TAB to ensure future fixed-odds markets are available on our main feature races. And the list goes on.

The battle to attract "not yet fans" to harness racing is ongoing and the development of a new-look online home of Victorian harness racing will play a big role in this. As will encouraging our industry participants to embrace social media and develop an online presence, because when you have people who love the game trumpeting its virtues then you're far more likely to attract people than if you're talking it down or not talking about it at all...

The racing results published in the Herald Sun for the gallops show the names of every place getter in the fields and full breeding /training /rider details for the winner. Harness racing results have been reduced to numbers and dividends for the first three placings only for each race. Is this a budget reduction by HRV Cody?

Certainly not, Anne. It is an editorial decision made by the Herald Sun. I've let it be known we're disappointed in the change to results and I've taken several phone calls from industry people wanting to know how to fix it. Unfortunately it is out of our control so I can only encourage readers to write letters to the editor, or phone the editor, when they see things in the paper they do not like. I'd think it remiss of newspaper editors in the current media climate to give readers fewer reasons to purchase a printed copy of their product.

Seems to be a trend with " Editorial Decisions". No fields at all for Terang in the Bendigo Advertiser today.
The Bendigo Addy covers a large swathe of central Vic ( Bendigo, Echuca, Charlton, Maryborough, Boort, through to Kilmore where there are Trotting Clubs) .Looks like we need to band together to request a better service.

It's not the first time. BHRC has a great relationship with the editorial staff, but paid ads get the space.
