Post Us - The members of our Forum

I have been a little fearful that our board is dying. I figure that if people visit the board and find nothing new - after a while they will not bother visiting. I may however be wrong (and maybe the board needs me to take a holiday - dont be afraid to tell me).

Being a stats nut, I have done some homework on 'who we are'

The main page claims there are 1078 members but if you click on the Community tab above and then Members List you will see that there is only 933 of us. (Banned etc would no doubt account for some of the discrepancy)
I used the Search function to find out that:

53 have joined just this year (20 have posted)
174 joined last year (77 have posted)
    115 joined in 2013
    128 in 2012
    316 in 2011
    147 in 2010

534 members have made at least 1 post
    399 have never posted

Of the 534 posters, 205 have only ever made 1 or 2 posts

268 different members have posted at least once since 2013
    of these
110 have posted this year (not bad I suppose for 153 days)
    93 last posted in 2014
    65 last posted in 2013

I appreciate that you do not have to be a poster to be a member and that some of us are more readers than writers like some people are better listeners than talkers
BUT without any authors there can be no readers

I would love someone to really keep us up to scratch on NSW, QLD, WA, SA, TAS (and even NZ)
I really only closely follow VIC due to the time involved but would be very interested in people keeping me informed on the highlights from the other states (and of course VIC too)

Maybe people have ideas for some good threads. I have wondered about selections but I figure that people who have done their homework do not want their odds taken, and Selections is another forum on the Main Board that has never taken off anyway

TC, I appreciate that this thread could belong somewhere else but please leave it here for now as the other forums are on life support when it comes to viewers

A good read, many thanks. I am a 'sometime' poster, my involvement in the industry is through ownership of 2 broodmares, potentially a 3rd if things don't go according to plan. We are also part of a syndicate and have been for 15 years, that has been wound up as of today as a business but will continue and potentially will buy/lease instead of breeding, everyone getting a bit long in the tooth for the time span of breeding to race. I do voluntary work for local owners association at workouts and trials but feel I don't know enough to comment on issues raised re the industry, but do love a good read so please everyone else keep up the good work. I am a pacifist and would never rock the boat. Hence my comments generally come under trivia label

Don't worry Jan, your comments would be most valuable but I am a trivia specialist myself

This will probably get thrown out but to add to your trivia, did you know Brontology is the scientific study of thunder sorry tc, but maybe I could qualify that by asking the effects of thunder on horses?

Back after a few months stint State side for work. Too busy to post when I'm working abroad but I'll be offering my two bobs worth of positiveness for the next couple of months whilst I'm home.

I live and work quite near Yonkers, I heard a familiar voice there a few weeks ago. I thought someone slipped a mickey into my Blue Moon : )

I can see how that relates to On Thunder Road winning at Menangle (you might expect TC to put that somewhere else )

    Hi all
Keep up the postings. I find that it's easy to slip into the habit of reading but not taking the time to respond.

Bob...living and working in Yonkers? I worked with a company providing Professional Development to staff in the Yonker's Public School system...late 90s' You had to be careful where you went . Has the neighbourhood around the track become safer with the massive crowds flocking to the VLTs at the venue?

Hi Noel, it's definitely improved. My Wife is a lecturer at Columbia Uni and we live nearby to there. Definitely a lot more people on site race nights now but few interested in the racing. I don't like clubs let alone casinos but without it, no Yonkers. The area has improved immensely on face value. I ignore the seedy aspects of the casino and enjoy the racing usually with a couple of workmates a night or two a week. Cheers mate
