So it would seem that a driver is compelled to give up the lead - it would seem to make one a sitting duck - I wonder whether the existence of a sprint lane is taken into consideration in that you will probably get a crack later (although we all know that the new leader is liable to be challenged and you can end up 2fence)

    http://www.harness.org.au/stewards-r...&fromstate=vic

Nathan Jack (Berisari) was found guilty of a charge under Rule 149(1) for failing to take all reasonable and permissible measures on his drive to finish in the best possible placing in the field in that after initially being challenged racing to the 1800m he resisted that challenge for too long a distance at significant speed in a lead time which was recorded 3.4 seconds faster than average lead time for races run over this distance and as a result of this speed dual Berisari then gave ground over the concluding stages to be beaten 19m into 5th placing where stewards say there was a reasonable and permissible opportunity for Mr Jack to surrender his position and look for an alternate option to allow his horse some respite. The licence to drive in races of Mr Jack was suspended for 3 weeks to commence midnight 13 July 2015. In assessing penalty stewards took into account the status of the race, that Mr Jack was not the aggressor in the speed duel between the two runners involved in this incident, the impact that the driving tactics adopted had on the performance of Berisari which was the $1.30 favourite

If Jack got 3 weeks for resisting a challenge, how many for the challenger?

Check out the fines as well as the suspensions...$2100 for drivers. Three suspensions, and dropped rein, dropped foot .....and these are our best drivers !!!! That's without the inquiries into tactics !

The protest was an interesting one, I am not totally convinced that Five Star Anvil was going to get up

The 2 best established younger drivers in the State, Sugars and Jack gift wrapped the lead to their main danger in 2 G1's on Sat night. In a dash up the straight they were unable to peg back the leader. Gifting the lead on the Fav a race earlier invited Josh Aiken to have a crack. When Jack flip flopped it turned into a pissing contest between the two.

The drive of Sugars on NNN early in the evening was equally as bad. He had his danger outside of him the start before and got out sprinted. With a 20-1 sit and sprint type on his back surely he runs them along on Saturday night and attempts to outstay them rather than be out sprinted once again.

Remove the sprint lane with some of these "elite" young drivers and it would be interesting. I doubt many of them could drive to contact and tactically they look inept other than leading or angling for the sprint lane.

Bob, instead of pleading guilty I thought Josh could have pointed out that in the 5 previous Gp 1's on the card, the quinella had been filled by horses on the markers AND so he decided that was where he must be
