Put Mount Eden in...... He was an amazing animal.
Looks like the list is morphing into a list of horses that raced in Australia in the 70s

The latest Top 10 of the 70s looks like this:
Bold Biami, Mount Eden, Court Jester, Bold David, Tara Meadow, Cocky Raider, Welcome Advice, Monara, Reichman, Hondo Grattan, Just Too Good, Paleface Adios, Royal Gaze, Adios Victor, Pure Steel, Markovina, Touch Merchant, Bay Johnny, Tony Bear, Retep's Pride, Maoris Idol, Rip Van Winkle, Manaroa, Young Quinn....Carclew?

Time to start trimming the large list to a manageable 10 !
What we plan to do at Bendigo is ptu 10 up on Facebook for people to arrange in order for our Back To The 70's night, hosted by Bill Hutcheson, complete with 5 real live bookmakers.

I think San Simeon and Lucky Creed deserve spots on the list. Other contenders are Deep Court and Mitchell Victory.

Lucky Creed is of course famous for his 24 straight but the last of those was in Jan 1970 so I am thinking a lot of his best work was really the 60's Trev.
While only San Simeon's 2yo season was in the 70's so he is more a horse of the 80's

Yes, Kevin. Both horses did most of their racing outside of the 70's.

San Simeon began his racing career on 11 November 1978 at Bunbury, 175 kilometres south of Perth. He immediately began his 29 race winning sequence by winning all 10 starts as a two-year-old including the WA Golden Slipper and WA Champagne Stakes. He was voted Australian two-year-old (2yo) of the year for 1978/9, and the $50,162 he earned that season was a new Australian record for a horse of his age.

As a three-year-old San Simeon raced only six times but recorded a win at each start. He defeated Victorian visitor Gammalite in the Western Australian Derby and then beat him comfortably in the Australian Derby. Both races were held at Gloucester Park in Perth. San Simeon was voted Australian 3yo of the year and his record now stood at 16 wins from 16 starts.

San Simeon was a hell of a horse alright Trevor and achieved a lot in a short space of time, Trying to pick 10 horses from the 70's is a very hard task as there were many very good ones and San Simeon definitley rates up there with the very best.

Should be a great night - I have attached a photo of the old Melb Showgrounds betting ring to get the memories in motion.

Also worth pointing out that noted racing historian John Adams has put the finishing touches to a book remembering the history of bookmaking - due for release in November. John tells me he has plenty of amusing stories and if the book is as good as his previous effort regarding jumps racing, it will be a must have.
