    2016 Breeders Crown

Time to get this thread going instead of having the heats etc scattered all over the place

3 good heats for the 3yo C&G at Ballarat starting with R5 at 8pm
Even with a couple of Odds On favs there are nevertheless at least 2 genuine chances in each heat

2yo Pacing Major in R2 (in 15min) is the entre
While R8 is a nice desert

If you missed them, watch the 3 heats Races 5-7. It was great racing - so keenly contested (and no sprint lane required)

In the 5th, Soho Tribeca's 2nd was as good as any run
In the 6th , you have to respect the winner's effort 3w
In the 7th, the winner was most impressive when you consider he was involved early (It's not often that you see Gavin unable to control one)

Congratulations to Greg Fusinato, breeder of Our Waikiki Beach.
A super horse whose 1.54 was less than a second over the Tk Rec for all ages.
Fruitlessly looking for a kink in his armour they (Franco Cristiano) poured on the pressure possibly trying to replicate his only one an only defeat but that was in a race against older horses and when he was not fully wound up
Today he was hunted out, ran the first Q in under 28 but still ran the last in 28 with two sub 29's in the middle!

12 in a row for Rocknroll Magic now - 12/12 this campaign and 22/28 overall.

Mum never did anything but look who the 3rd dam is: Larrakeyah Lady - say no more

In hindsight it is hard to see how Heavens Trend should have started $1.50
Glad to see the Stewart stable get up - a treble to the NZ raiders would have been too much to bear

It will be interesting to see what the stewards make of Lauren Tritton's drive in R6

5 of the 6 pacing races on Crown day were run in 1.54.5 or better - not bad for 2, 3 & 4yo's over 2240m especially when the open age Tk Rec is 1.53.2 (the 6th was a very respectable 1.55.2 for 2yo's)

Purdon and Stewart won ALL 6 pacing finals with Stewart getting a quaddie and Purdon a double (a treble on the day thanks to a trotting winner)

The driving treble by Alford was incredible when you consider that Lang drove most of the Stewart stable favourites
