    Gordon Rothacker Medal Night discussion

    http://www.harness.org.au/news-artic...?news_id=30883

I have already received pms that see a problem with this
    • In Melbourne during Cup week means no cheap accommodation will be available
    • At Crown Casino suggests HRV will not be making anything from the night
    • Do we need to pay Mick Guerin instead of some home-grown talent?
    • If we cannot afford family entertainment at Breeders Crown day, how do we justify this?

Kev I don't see a problem with it. This is our industries premier awards night and should be at a premier location. Not sure whether it makes a difference being at the end of the spring carnival on a Sunday night. As for accomodation there is discounted accomodation available to hrv guests at various location. https://www.eventbrite.com.au/e/2016...ts-25224598453
As for guerin and Hamilton being hosts- their not my cup of tea but we'd have to pay someone to host the night so it might as well be someone who knows what they're talking about.

Nathan beat me to it! Was going to let Kevin know there are discounted accommodation options and also early bird ticket discounts.

In my opinion we need to have one event, an industry night to celebrate the achievements of our people, in the heart of the sporting capital of Australia. We're a great sport, let's push that message to the world, not just to ourselves.

I can agree with that but put out the contents of a pm I received
I do however doubt that it will be noticed by anybody but ourselves at Cup time
Where we really have to be noticed is any one big race day a year - we have to aim high and hope that we have one day (a fixed day) which will become our equivalent of the Melbourne Cup. It may take 50yrs but we have to aim high as the Cup alone is why the gallops have a place in half the households of Australia

Agree with you on that point Kevin. Ideally in my view that would be the A.G. Hunter Cup.

In that case it will have to be a day meeting and on a set day (that does not clash with anything else) eg the first Sunday in Feb

    Yes, very good night.

Close to 500 there, around 40 awards presented but they were done by 10:30.

While still a long night it did not seem to drag quite as much as past years.

Hosting/interviewing combo worked well and kept things rolling.

Good location as well despite the doubts on it. The room and venue was turned out a treat in my opinion.

On again in the middle of 'gallops time' - if it is not gaining any recognition you would at least hope it is paying for itself. I won't debate the merit of the venue but wonder whether it could not be held in the lead up to the Vic Cup to further its promotion

You will never be able to please everyone. The night itself was excellent, venue was great and despite their being a lot of awards to present it didn't drag. Disappointing that there were trots on at Hamilton that day which denied the behind the scenes people at the club to celebrate their win in the best presented track award, an award that was richly deserved. Gets a thumbs up from me and I reckon most people who went enjoyed it.
