HRNSW Media Release Breeders the Winners

    30 March 2012

As part of the Harness Racing NSW Strategic Plan (2010-13) the Board committed to allocate 25% of the residual Race Field income to breeding initiatives.
It was announced in June 2010 that a Breeders Challenge Nominators Bonus would be introduced for horses conceived in the 2010/11 season and beyond.
The nominators of Breeders Challenge eligible horses (which in the majority of cases will be the breeder) is to receive a $3,000 cash bonus for that horse’s first C class win of the season as a two and three-year-old.
Four-year-olds are also eligible to claim the bonus if they did not win one in their two or three-year-old seasons.
Additionally, if a Breeders Challenge eligible two, three or four-year-old wins a Group 1 race anywhere in Australia, the nominator shall receive the equivalent of 10% of the total prizemoney of that event.
HRNSW CEO Sam Nati said: “When fully rolled out, this initiative will inject $1 million per year into the breeding sector.
The Board of Harness Racing NSW will convene next Tuesday for a special meeting to discuss today’s High Court decision.

Harness Racing NSW (HRNSW) is the controlling body for harness racing in New South Wales with responsibility for commercial and regulatory management of the industry including 31 racing clubs across the State. HRNSW is headed by an industry-appointed Board of Directors and is independent of Government.
