The problem the Candyman had was that he had to drive for luck

I generally leave Live Caption running on my desktop and the following came up before R1 and before they seemed to know they were on air
I don't know what to make of it

I love seeing a crowd there - and I think this crowd is there for the harness racing!
It was a huge crowd. Entry from 4pm. No entry after 7pm. Top NZ band playing after the last. Brilliant atmosphere and a buzz everywhere. The TAB Trot was the talk of the track all night. Far less interest in the pacers race. Well worth the trip

Sounds good Carol. I did not know about the band but am I still right in thinking that most were there for the harness

This morning PP has highlighted Maurice McKendry taking hold of his drive to stop it from winning R4 at Cambridge last night
He is on No.1 which ended up with the 1x1
It is so blatant that you cannot help but think NZ racing is stuffed if they allow this crap

How do we explain Mach Shard getting up to win the Taylor mile from last (at $155)
1.53.9 doesn't seem that fast But it isn't like Oz - breaking 1.51 in NZ is super rare
The on pace runners did not break 29 for Q4 in a mile race (!) so Mach Shard did not have to break the clock to swamp them
Although the track was listed as good, the weather was showery so maybe the track way out wide where he finished was better going

    Kev,

have a closer look at the replay, MM never gave the horse a loose rein at any stage ( for a reason) and in the fraction of a second preceding him taking a bit of a hold the horse rolls in his hind end gait. In my humble opinion, McKendry did what he is known for doing, giving the horse every possible chance and hence the owners ( and punters) the best result possible.

Dan, I am just a mug fan, you have 1,000% more knowledge than me on these matters - if you can see see a reason for him taking a bit of a hold then I will accept that that is likely the case.
