Harness Racing Victoria today announced that New York based breeding giant Blue Chip Farms will be the naming rights sponsor of the upcoming 2012 Australasian Breeders Crown Race Series.
In a first for Australasian Harness Racing, a world renowned American breeding farm will be the principal sponsor of a major Harness Race Series in the Southern Hemisphere.
Blue Chip Farms' outstanding stallion line up boasts the likes of Art Major, Bettors Delight, Rock N Roll Heaven, American Ideal, Roll With Joe and Shadow Play all of whom will be standing at Stud in Australia or New Zealand in the upcoming 2012/13 breeding season.
Through the achievements of Art Major and Bettors Delight, Blue Chip Farms has already had an enormous impact on the Australasian Harness Racing scene.
Art Major is the sire of Champion Sushi Sushi, arguably the best performed three-year-old ever produced in Australia as well as the sire of emerging star Philadelphia Man and outstanding fillies Louvre and Lady Euthenia.
Bettors Delight is the sire of reigning NZ Horse of the Year Carabella, NZ three-year-old colt of the year Gold Ace, Australian three-year-old filly of the year Bellas Delight as well as Grand Circuit stars Highview Tommy and Bettors Strike.
Blue Chip Farms’ Vice President of Operations Jean Brown said, “Blue Chip Farms and its stallions are delighted to be a part of the upcoming Australasian Breeders Crown series.
“We feel it’s an honour to be asked to begin this wonderful association both on a personal level and from a business perspective. It’s an exciting time for everyone involved and we look forward to further developing our relationships in Australia and New Zealand through our support of these outstanding races.”
Leading Australasian Stud Farms in Alabar, Pepper Tree Farm and Woodlands Stud have also confirmed as major event partners of the 2012 Blue Chip Farms Breeders Crown Series. They are Blue Chip Farms’ Southern Hemisphere partners and responsible for their downunder stallion roster.
First staged in 1998 the Breeders Crown Series has rapidly advanced to become Australasia’s premier race series for young pacers and trotters.
Encompassing two, three and four-year-old pacers of both genders along with squaregaiters of the same ages, the 2012 Blue Chip Farms Breeders Crown Series will pay out in excess of $2.3 million in stake money.
Harness Racing Victoria CEO John Anderson said the partnership between Blue Chip Farms and the Breeders Crown would add to the prestige and take the 2012 Series to another level.
“We are delighted that a world leader in Blue Chip Farms has partnered with HRV to present the 2012 Blue Chip Farms Breeders Crown Series.
“Blue Chip Farms epitomize international breeding excellence and outstanding quality. We think it is fitting that they have chosen to partner with and support the Breeders Crown Series which we believe displays the same outstanding qualities,” said Anderson.
The Finals of the 2012 Blue Chip Farms Breeders Crown Series will be conducted at Tabcorp Park Melton on ‘Super Sunday’ August 19. Almost $1.5 million in stakes, including nine Group 1 Finals will be up for grabs to determine Australasia’s premier young pacers and trotters for 2011/12. The Victorian heats of the Blue Chip Farms Breeders Crown Series commence at Shepparton on July 21.

Nice to see and good on Blue Chip for coming on board. With the reality of the US economy and the harness racing industry in North America I'm sure this was very much a business decision, our unlimited books plus the strength of our dollar makes the southern hemisphere season no longer a bit of icing on the cake for NA stallion owners but very much a large part of the cake itself.
