I see your point Bailey. If they wanted to be accurate it could easily have been a $610k race - forget the 10k starters fee and just reduce the prizemoney for every position by 10k
Interesting to note that each starter in the Interdominion must pay a $10,000 starters fee.
With 14 starters that's $140,000, so the final is not $750,000 but $610,000.
Added to this, each starter finishing 5th to last will have $15,000 added to their prizemoney total with the $10,000 deducted starters fee not allowed for. The owners get $5,000 to cover their expenses, granted the thrill of making the final would be outstanding but maybe it's not the money maker it appears to be.

The promotion of the Melbourne Cup etc. would be the same? Travel subsidies would be outside that formula?
Have seen this cause big problems with a horse that was leased. The owner wanted his share of the unplaced money even though the people who had the horse leased didn't get any money in their hand. Ended up in court.
