    Stewards report:

Julian Attard, driver of Im The Boss, was found guilty of a charge under Rule 149(1) in that after leading during the first quarter of 28.6 seconds it was both reasonable and permissible to steady the tempo of the race between the 1200m and 800m and rather than take this option Mr Attard allowed Im The Boss to race clear of the field resulting in the second quarter being recorded in 28.9 seconds and Im The Boss commencing to be placed under pressure approaching the 400m and Im The Boss finishing in 3rd placing beaten 12.5m. In assessing penalty Stewards took into Mr Attard’s blemish free record of 40 years, the frequency in which he currently drives and the degree of culpability, which due to Mr Attard’s extensive experience, was deemed to be mid-range. Stewards accordingly imposed a 4 week suspension of Mr Attard’s licence to drive in races. This suspension was ordered to commence midnight Thursday 31 July 2014. Post-race veterinary examination of Im The Boss failed to reveal any significant abnormalities.

    RIDICULOUS

He seemed to have a tactical plan to run them off their legs and although he may have overestimated his horse and gone a little too fast you cannot suspend him for that, it is not as if his horse completely compounded - still hung on for third

Agree guys. He was 25/1 and beaten under 13m. There's no way IMO that Sugars, Alford, Lang etc would have got time for that drive!

40 years of blemish free driving and the poor guy gets 4 weeks for a horse that was 25/1 and runs 3rd, If the horse was in the market you could haul him in, But definitley not in this case. Bloody ridiculous!!!

I recall back in my Harness Racing Weekly days writing a story concerning a Victorian driver who was fined for going over 65 seconds (I think) for the first half of the last mile.

He went on to win the race, in track record time (it was a rare mobile trot over a short trip), but it proves that you can get fined for going too slow in an event where you also end up going fast!

I believe they changed the rule after that.

By reading the stewards report obviously they think his affected his winning chances by going to fast. Drivers are suspended all the time for lack of judgement.
