    Vale Daphne Pocock

Daphne Pocock, wife of legendary trainer Ken Pocock, and mother of pioneering female driver, trainer Roma passed away peacefully in the family home opposite Lord's Raceway in Bendigo on Friday, April 1st.

Daphne was involved with Harness Racing throughout her entire life.

Daphne was the daughter of Bendigo trainer driver Clarrie Long who trained and drove in the days of Ascot, then Woodend and was successful in the first year at the Royal Melbourne Showgrounds with Great Dalla
Her husband the legendary Ken Pocock was known as the Cups King with top class horses including Peparkee, Fosmar, Chief Invader, Kaye Lois, Chapel Elect, Game Oro and the prolific Royal Gaze.

Daughter Roma was one the pioneering Victorian women who literally forced their way into the driving ranks through talent and perseverance. She broke the 2 minutes in a time trial driving Royal Gaze in 1978, Son John drove winners as well.

Daphne will be well remembered for her many years (well over 60) of voluntary work for the Bendigo Harness Racing Club and for the hospitality she offered students at the Harness Racing Training School Bendigo.
She will be fondly remembered by many for her work in the canteen at Bendigo Trial mornings, and for her fine inscribed Presentation Rug Work that adorn many victorious horses across the State.

All in the Harness Industry pass on their sincerest condolences to Daphne’s family on the loss of such a wonderful person and invaluable lifelong contributor to our Industry.
