View Full Version : Foals 2017/2018
I can't believe it's breeding season again already.
Post yer babies in here. Our first is due soon, then we'll have a foal downpour later in the season.
We tried to save a foal a few weeks ago, but it was born prematurely and died :( The first 'live' foal we have due is out of Stellar Kamwood - truly the nastiest horse we've ever had. That's gonna be fun! Hope the foal takes after the sire personality wise
I've seen a couple of ads chasing surrogate mums already this season too.

Hope to see plenty of photos on here shortly. This is the earliest foal I have ever owned. Came as a total surprise. Photo taken by Mick Holtham at Allwood stud, does a great job does Mick.
Be interesting to see how FTS goes against For a Reason in NSW. FAR started stud duties a bit earlier so has the jump . FAR has a pretty impressive racing record and a fast time under his belt as well. Art major might have a few to keep the line going hopefully

Here's our baby just a couple hours old. It's actually an RnR Heaven

Had a foal last week. All went good to start with and then went bad. His Mum decided not to keen on being a Mum. Despite all the efforts of Leigh & Alison Miles (3 nights and days feeding him to keep him alive) things got no better. He got a foster Mum now and the change in him has been unbelievable. All coz of their efforts to keep him alive. And this maybe is where we differ from our thoroughbred counterparts.... we tend to do it all ourselves. They spent 4 days trying to keep a horse alive that may never see a racetrack. Am sure there are many out there that do the same... makes you wonder when you see things like "Trainer fined.. No assessment card". Anyway....
Go Slinky!!!

A great effort by all concerned.
That's a great story Paul. They're like our own babies, you can't watch them die
Our first ever Trotting foal. Looks like the cutest thing on the planet
Majestic Son - Tarn nz

Two more! This one's out of Blue Sensation which makes the foal a close relation to our boy Three Bears. I thiiiiink it's an Art Major. Small body but legs for days. 774775
This one I'm guessing is an RnR Heaven - Diamonds Above. The family isn't overly generous with giving me details so I'm going by the mare' s head on who she is. Can't believe the amount of white in our foals this year. Must be through RnR because Holly has hardly any white going back 3 generations mare side
Edit: I was wrong. the mare is Call me sweetheart.
A Bit down in the back fetlocks but it'll straighten up. Mare absolutely loves him/her.776777778
How's Slinky going Paul? Will you get his mum in foal again?

He going great now thank you Katie. Congrats on your babies.
Go see him yesterday and him and his other little mate very funny to watch. Both wanting to play but their mums not real sure about it at moment. Mums will get sick of worrying soon i reckon.
Nah not breeding with her again. Too much worry. Shame coz she got nice breeding. Can do embryo transfer but gets a bit costly. Although after Slinky win the 2020 Derby might reconsider it!! :) :) :)
Is it her first Foal? It's such a strange thing how a foster mum can bond so quickly with a foal when the foals own mother wont. Maybe there was juat something about the birth that made her not like him.
I love the name Slinky oh my gosh

Yep first foal. Seem bond ok when born. Bit scratchy after but come good. Gave her plenty time but not interested at all. Very experienced people...plenty foals born there before. Happens but no one know exactly why.
Anyway all well now thanks to my friends.

This kid's grown out a bit. Art Major - Blue Sensation. Hopefully s/he doesn't break a leg like so many in this family do. It's expensive to treat and hard on the horses :(
Actually I dont even know if this is the same foal but let's go with that anyway.

One last one. Not sure of the breeding of this one. We have 5 all up so far, but a few/couple more due in Nov/Dec.

Fantastic looking foals..

Foal number 7. No photos of foal 6 yet. This one is RNR Heaven - Stellar Kamwood colt. So much white in our foals this year! Dad used to have a superstition that 3 white feet was bad luck, and I'm sure that carried through to blazes too. HAHA DAD, GONNA HAVE TO CHANGE YOUR BELIEFS THIS YEAR
She's a very nasty mare to people but absolutely loves her new little baby.
792
Actually, yes! Here's #6 a few hours old. RNR Heaven - Diamonds Above. Similar colour to the one above which is interesting - same sire.

That is some blaze Katie, dad won't mind if they run like their sire
794
This is the kind of sight we're used to seeing with Stellar, foal #7's mum ;)
795
Second last foal. RnR Dance - Barbara Doo. So much white this year, it's crazy
796
Last foal for the year I think. RnR Heaven - Motu Rubiesnsatin. Pure black. No white on this baby
I miss them.

Superb foal. And out of a good kiwi family with plenty of winners.
Well I lied - another foal born. Mach Three - Gold Diamonds colt. Crooked legs and they need to let down still but he should straighten up. Hope he's better than his mother and more like his uncle.

Mum is a full sis to The Gold Ace folks
The Howlett's breeding has kept this thread alive this season
Me again. Mach Three - Nivea Franco filly. Interesting naming combinations with Mach Three a razor brand and Nivea a skin care brand. Nivea apparently means Snow White too in Latin - Mach It Snow???
She's in NZ, which is good because our paddocks are a summer dustbowl now :(

Katie we used to race horses with the Nivea /Niveas name prefix and did pretty well with them. The mare was named Nivea Peak and all bar 2 of her foals were named with it. She got her name when Monica Castles saw a bottle of cream and thought it would make a good name hence the Nivea and her grandfather was Silver Peak

Good luck Lisa, if the bad weather eventuates I was thinking the foal could be named Tidal Wave but that is taken - however I think Tsunami should be available (last use in 1995 is deceased)

Unfortunately I lost my Sir Lincoln foal and my mare Peaces Of You due to a difficult birth and infections. Very disappointed to only get one foal from her but at least it's a filly so I will have something to breed with when she finishes racing.
Sorry to hear :( losing them is awful. We lost 2 this year at the breakers. Absolutely kills us

KTQ, how would you have lost them at the breakers? I haven't heard of that before. I presume you mean when they were getting broken in.

Yes, at the place they were being broken in :(

That's dissapointing. Were they injured while getting broken or found dead? I lost a two year old at the trainers, walked out in the morning and was dead in box. Haven't had the best luck the last couple of years.
