The sort of headlines that we never wanted to see in the press.

As triple and I have said elsewhere , if you are commenting here , remember that this will be a matter that may proceed to serious court action involving a lot of livelihoods , and we must remember that and not prejudice future possible court proceedings by "naming names" here and making inappropriate comments.

I know a lot of harness folk are simply furious , me included , but let's let Sam Nati and his team work though this with the relevant authorities in an orderly fashion and let justice prevail.

I think that this may be the dawn of a new era. Trotting has been plagued with this sort of rumour and innuendo since day dot, or at least as long as I have been involved in the sport. So with huge headlines and hopefully a successful rounding up of the scoundrels involved, remaining participants will embrace the sport with a new found enthusiasm which will hopefully encourage those that had been frightened to become involved to do so. As the old saying goes, every cloud has a silver lining.

As somewhat odd as it may sound right now SP, in the short to medium and hopefully in the longer term I also see this week's events as a significant positive.
I think we'll see all sorts of trainers & drivers from all over the State & for that matter all over the Country winning races at Menangle and at other venues throughout NSW as well.
Having gotten over at least the initial shock and disgust, I am actually very, very upbeat as far as the future of the honest participants and especially so the smaller concerns goes.
The Owners & Trainers & Drivers that have always done the right thing and played it with a straight bat are going to have their days in the Sun, of that I'm certain.

I was skeptical when Sam Nati took the top job, but I must say I have been mighty impressed over the past few years with his dedication to NSW Harness Racing. I think he is very fair, genuinely cares about the horsepeople and really wants to make a positive and memorable contribution to the sport. Hats off to you, Sam and thank you :)

Geeze Flashing, take it easy. Please don't start up on Hats.
You'll give Sam ideas. He'll show up at Menangle one day in a Panama. :p:p:p:p

Hi Flashing

In addition to the above he's intelligent and very perceptive. I feel confident that this whole sorry saga will see the sport improve in NSW.

How much of a head line will Smoken Up get if he is found positive?

I find it sad that some of these incidents are not stopped earlier, when they are first detected/suspected.

The news of the past few days leaves you with little confidence or faith in respect of the Integrity of NSW Harness Racing in recent times. Who knows which results are genuine and which results have been assisted by banned substances and correuption and malpractice from officials?

It has to be one of the darkest episodes in Australian Harness Racing.

I don't agree Shakamaker. If they get rid of the low-lifes and crooks forever, it will the best episode in Aust. harness racing.

It's such a shame harness racing gets this bad name when a) the good are getting rid of the bad so we are getting clean and b) gallops are this guys best customer for all the sweeping they need to do. Its the carpet court jester FYI.http://www.carpetcourt.com.au/media/images/Jester_Sitting.jpg

EDIT: Inb4SamNati wears this.

i hope it is not as bad as first looks and it is cleaned up quickly but i have noticed that this forum is a gathering of gloom and doom some people should be ashamed at the posts put on here and should relise you are still accountable for what you write even if you hide behind fake id.......

G'day Trigger.
I trust that Lance is looking after you in the manner to which you have become accustomed. You went a seriously wicked trip at Melton the other night, btw. Congrats.
I'd beg to differ with the viewpoint of this forum being a gathering of gloom & doom.
The shorter term pain is not going to be particularly pleasant here in NSW as this whole sorry saga looks as though it still has a few more acts to play out...however as a number of posters including myself have already made note...this 'house cleaning' is in fact going to be a very good thing in the medium to longer term.
The fake ID aspect here is not quite as fake as it may initially appear and old mate who was giving you a touch up has already been speared as you may have noticed. I'm pretty certain Admin. either knows for certain or has a very, very good idea about who each of the posters are. People should be accountable & they should realise that they are, couldn't agree more.

BBD - I hope that this episode does help to clean up the Industry and that more of a level playing field is established. To think however that this episode will clean up all low lifes and crooks throughout Australia is misguided. This is a NSW investigation only. Hopefully the problems that they have experienced are restricted only to their State but it would be naive to suggest that all other States have a level playing field in operation.

The problem that I see is that Joe Public who doesn't know much about Harness Racing that reads about this in the Papers or sees it on the News on TV will think that Harness Racing is a joke and that corruption has infiltrated through to the Stewards and Governance level of the sport. Why would they want to even contemplate becoming an owner or becoming involved in the sport or having a serious bet when doubt lingers in their mind over how clean the sport is?

Harness Racing NSW has no option but to go their hardest and clean it all up. I still maintain however that the episode is a dark chapter in Australian Harness Racing and does not diminish our damaging reputation as the 'Red Hots' or "Thieves on Wheels' one iota.

G'day Big Fella

I can't see any reason for people posting under a nom de plume; from my perspective all it does is provide the opportunity to be that little bit braver when it comes to smearing others. It's the sole reason I left the site some time ago!

Initially I was going to run with Mother Theresa but in a strongly worded letter admin. stated that it wouldn't be allowed....(a staunch Catholic perhaps?):rolleyes::rolleyes::rolleyes:

I agree that people get "braver" aka as "keyboard warriors" when behind a non de plume. My name has already been all over this forum anyway, but the reason why I use a non de plume is because some people lacking brain cells can't comprehend that I can have a different point of view from the racing circles I associate - I get sick of having to clarify myself OUTSIDE of the forum by people who read what I write then run off telling others. No doubt for the sole purpose of causing trouble, typical of racing folk! :) Have had so much trouble in the past, hence my posts are so diplomatic. Those that I speak to outside this forum can vouch that in the "real world" I am not quite as diplomatic... lol! :)

Hey Trigger, you've got Mr. Ed's number any day of the week and twice of a Sunday.
All he could do was talk to Wilbur & every so often he'd ring up & order Pizza (hold the Pepperoni) .

You're the smartest horse I've ever encountered. Keep up the good work. :D
