When the decision comes from Yonker's new director of racing, no less than Cammie Houghton, son of the Immortal Bill, that it's Back to Basics for drivers...to actually drive and not wait for 2 lanes to appear inside the leading horse it's time to take notice.

Noticed also that there are discussions taking place to relocate the Yonker's Raceway, and its massive ( 5000+ video lottery terminals) "Racino" to Belmont, across Long Island Sound in Queens.

From Harnesslink:
The track, which first opened in 1899, has had a tumultuous history: Attendance would sometimes hit 40,000 people in the grandstand in racing's heyday 60 or 70 years ago.

But as interest in the sport waned, so do did the fortunes at Yonkers. The Rooneys put it up for sale in the late 1990s -- and there was a glimmer of hope that once it could lure the New York Jets or another sports franchise to build a new stadium there.

The law to allow for video-lottery terminals transformed the facility. Last year, it had revenue of $590 million, a 6 percent increase from the previous year.
