Former NSW Premier Bob Carr used to run this sort of thing here on a very regular basis.
It's the time honoured sausage machine press release aimed at 'feeding the media chickens'.
Sadly, as the residents of this State found out to their detriment, it has little or nothing to do with following up on or with carrying out anything that's put across.
Rather it is all about creating the illusion of progress, it is wholely and solely about the pomp and ceremony of the announcement, it is about the media grab for the day or the week or the month. Nothing more, nothing less.
This rather cynical approach probably started off here in Sydney with Tim Gartrell but was without any shadow of a doubt refined considerably by old mate Karl Bitar & The Sussex St. Machine Men of the NSW Labor Party.
After insidiously permeating and sickening this State it went viral, spreading to VIC and QLD & ultimately going Federal...hence the abject bloody disgrace that we now have in Canberra.
Getting back to the subject at hand, even though his mates have progressively gotten the arse in both VIC & NSW & they will soon get it in QLD...and Heaven help us sooner rather than later Federally...it would no doubt be doing Karl & the boys no end of good that Bob is attempting to 'keep the dream alive' via these Racing QLD announcements.

The skilful way in which he has employed the 3 key elements...
(1) The mention of big $$$
(2) currently seeking planning permission
(3) distant completion date

...would make the chests of the Sussex St Machine Men swell with pride.

Clever post , triple. You and I may not share the same political leanings overall , but putting that aside , I agree completely with your criticism of the past NSW Carr government and indeed the last NSW Labor government that we booted out in NSW a few months back.

There is not a "snowball's chance in hell" of state Labor being returned to power in Queensland , so where will that leave all this ?

G'day Ozninja,

Well, much in the same way as the very bright future of NSW Harness Racing has come to us as a direct result of the NSWHRC being left totally unaccosted to sell & relocate at their own discretion, it will leave the future of Harness Racing in QLD in the hands of the Albion Park Club.
They'll be left able to choose of a time, date & sale price that is agreeable to them in order to do something similar....as it should always be and should always have been to begin with.
There'll be no Big Government intervention, tacit or otherwise.
There'll be no forced seizures of Harness Racing Industry assets and of course the bliss that results from there being no further Karl Bitar inspired empire building press releases will be in & of itself...evident for all the world to see.

Come the next State Election in QLD I'm thinking RQLD, in mirror image fashion, will be swept from the desk and into the dustbin of history... as was the abhorently conceived, deplorably run, outrageously expensive abject failure that was the 'GHRRA' here in NSW.

On the subject of the GHRRA and it's ultimate (& to the Industry Participants in this State nothing short of joyous) disapperance by way of a rather loud & vulgar sound reminiscent of a Sumo Wrestler slamming his hulking great arse down on a box trailer sized whoopie cushion...you'd have thought the NSW experience would have prevented our QLD bretheren from going down that same 'merger of the Codes' road...???
But no, clearly they learnt nothing.
Never fear however, for Campbell Newman & the LNP will clean up the mess.
Bring on the Election.
