Croydon Light Harness Club in Victoria in conjunction with the Mountain District Horse and Pony Club are having an Open day at our Eastfield Park complex on Sunday April 15th from 9.00am to 5.00pm. There will be ring events in the morning. A free BBQ lunch and some harness racing exhibition workouts and pony trotters will follow in the afternoon. We are a training club and cannot hold trials but stewards have given us permission to have 4 horse fields. We hope to attract local community members and visiting horse people in order to publicise our club and perhaps increase our membership. There will be small prizes for participants and a raffle of a set of quick hitch harness for those who participate in the exhibition workouts. We are located in Eastfield Rd, Croydon. All are welcome, so come and have a look at one of the two training clubs left in Melbourne.

Looks a great initiative David. Not sure if you had already done so, but I have just sent a message to our Marketing/Comm's team to see what we can do to help promote the day.

Great work by Croydon. I went to the Eastfield Cup there about 10 years ago. A group bought horses over from Warragul and people also came across from Oakleigh. Well worth a visit.

Great open day for Croydon Light Harness Club and Mountain District Horse and Pony Club on Sunday April 15th. Despite the rain we had 80 members of the public turn up and look through both club complexes. Many stayed for several hours watching the events. Good turnout of horses and pony trotters. Two heats and a final were held for the pony trotters. Courtney Laker on Bad Boy Rusty won the final. A real change of luck for Courtney after trying very hard for a long time to win with her pony. Encouragement award went to Kristy Egan on Fast Shoe Two exhibition workouts were held for the big horses. Trainer Darryl Dunn won the Zilco harness. Special thanks must go to Toby McKinnon for commentating the day, Rita Burnett for her support bringing ponies/big horses, Anthony O'Brien for performing Clerk of Course duties and all the horsepeople who showed their support in attending the day. Even though the day was hampered by the rain it was evident the genuine happiness that people took in being up close to the horses in action. Some kids were heard asking their parents if they could get into pony trotting - hope they do! Both clubs will hold the day again next year. With a bit of luck the weather will be better and those who didn't get the chance to attend will do so next year.
