Our Katie (KTQ) might have to add Culpeka to the horses listed on her profile (and change her location) for after 18mths off after campaigning with the best of them in NZ (including a Gp1 2nd to Spankem as a 2yo) he is fully recovered and has won his last 4/5 in WA including a dominating win last night
He made a procession of it with the 4 on the rails behind him, filling 2nd - 5th, in the order they raced

Read this article for a bit of background (It was written in the lead up to last night)

He is going an absolute treat, thanks Kev!
Ill tell you a bit of his background. We bought him as a yearling in NZ the year after we bought Jack Mac as a weanling. Mangos had them both in NZ and Jack was littler, less strong etc and they told us not quite as good so we brought him to WA and kept Culpeka there for the big races. Jack Mac went on to win 16 of 18 (including the group 1 Golden Slipper and Pearl finals) before he broke his pedal bone last year in the Nugget prelude. Id be surprised if Culpeka is better than him ... but effin oath itd be great if he was!!! Hahahha
Culpeka and another horse we had in NZ, Major Express, both had bone chips and werent going great so we brought them over and had them operated on. But after the op, BOTH developed what the vet believed was antibiotic induced scours and had it for 14months.
They spent months at the vet and months at Murdoch Uni and they couldnt fix them. People kept saying we'd need to put them down eventually because they were so sick but we kept persisting and tried everything known to man to get them better. Consistency and research paid off. Slowly they came good and both are now back racing. Major Express is doing brilliant too, he's won 4 of 5 this season (broke up in his first race). Got a fair few vet bills to pay off
I tell ya, every time they race its a win in of itself because of how far theyve come. Winning is the cherry. I think we're all still in shock that theyre racing!
Of all the things we tried, Metronidazole, Bio sponge, Digestive IQ, Activated charcoal and Speedi Beet worked the best. But who knows really. We tried so many things
Culpeka is a good racehorse but man, he needs gelding.. we cant take the risk of giving him antibiotics again so just have to wear earplugs and put cones around his stall at the trots

Thanks for the inside story Katie. It is amazing, I can see why you would be so happy to just get them back to the track BUT they decided to repay the stable with mega wins
