So it is now for 3yo's & 4yo's
I do worry about 2yo's being pushed too hard too early but strangely, I don't know how I feel about this (Old Fuddy Duddy syndrome?)

They state that the old winter/August dates were a tough sell
It will now be positioned on the heels of the Spring Carnival
Worth a try?

They always got a good spell in Sept-Oct. Now when do they get a spell? Sires July, Trials Sept, Lead up races Oct, Crown Nov, Vic Derby Jan, NSW Derby Feb. Few let ups but no spells.

Although smart by HRV local 3yos will be fit for Vic Derby and may then need a spell missing NSW Derby.

Also impacts on NZ horses due to NZ Cup Week with the sires stakes race for 3yo on Cup Day
Interesting to see how they will get around that issue (if they choose to)

Since 2year olds don't start racing until December it would have to be for 3yo and 4yo horses ! This would cause many 2y olds to start racing later in the season and deplete the amount of horses available adding to the small field problem.

Yes Rick, if you click on the schedule link you see that it is clearly for 3y0's & 4yo's now as I stated in the first post

True. Even the NZ FFA and the Junior FFA race have the 4yos having a crack. Poorly thought out move imo

I wonder whether they thought of holding off on this decision until after the CEO consultation tour OR isn't the consultation tour anymore than PR - I don't know, just wondering
