Is Rock n Roll Heaven the Horse of the Year ? For me he is ! what other horse could push him for this honour? Any takers...

Most likely Rock N Roll Heaven will be the HOY. However, I think one horse who has not been getting the respect she deserves is Put On A Show, a winner of twelve races this year thus far. However, these days it is hard for a filly to beat a stallion as so much more attention is given to the boys.

RnR Heaven is the horse of the year by far and very worthy.

Rocknroll Heaven peaked at the right time and is obviously HOY. The 3-year-old colt trotting class, which is often dominated by one star, has been especially schizophrenic this year. Do you folks like the suspense and variety, or would you prefer to see a Mack Lobell type who dominates the class?

No one has mentioned See You At Peelers. Both she and Put On A Show deserve to be Horse Of The Year over Rocknroll Heaven. See You At Peelers was undefeated in 13 starts. It's hard to beat that. Not only did she beat the amazingly fast Drop The Ball but she relegated Casie Coleman's undefeated filly Idyllic to ordinary status in the Breeders Crown. Put On A Show has only lost two races: The Mistletoe Shalee to Dancinwiththestarz (who broke the world record) and the Fan Hanover to Jugette winner Western Silk (with a final quarter of 25.3). Don't get me wrong, Rock N Roll Heaven is a very fast horse but other than One More Laugh, the three year old pacing colt division is not that strong. Both fillies deserve it more.

My only knock with See You At Peelers is the overwhelming number of victories came in NYSS and state-restricted events. If she raced in more open events then I would look at her as a contender.

That's a fair attack against the accomplishments of See You At Peelers but its pretty hard to knock Put On A Show especially when you compare her to Rock N Roll Heaven. She is superior and deserves to be Horse Of The Year. However, most of the voters will get it wrong...

Diamond creek I never saw a breeding farm come out and give opinion about HOY or say any horse is superior to another or be negative toward a horse I guess for fear it may hurt them at the sales . I commend you on your honesty.

Im not being negative towards Rock N Roll Heaven. He is a very good horse. In fact, he has such pure speed that he runs away from his competition (especially in the third quarter). However, by voicing my opinion that another horse deserves to be HOY does not diminish Rock N Roll Heaven's accomplishments, it only magnifies and points out how great Put On A Show's year has been.

See You At Peelers looks like the real deal! She toyed with those fillies in the Breeders Crown! It will be interesting to see what she does next year. Sure, Rock N Roll Heaven will most likely be HOY. It's not easy for a filly to be named HOY no matter how good she is, although, I don't know why.

I think all horses mentioned would be in strong contention for HOY, from an Aussie looking in i'd go for RNRH as he has won the big races but what sets it off for me is the LBJ that was amazing 1:49.2 twice in one afternoon WOW. It's a pitty Shark Gesture got injured cause if he didn't he would be the one they would be all chasing.

:D It's a fasinating dsucussion and if I were a betting man I would go with a tie (are ties allowed) beten RNRH and POAS.
It's interesting that every time Rock N Roll Heaven raced for 1 M or more he couldn't get the job done
And then there is the sex issue (male vs female).
See You At Peelers (dumb name by the way) has next year to demonstrate her raw talent .

Rocknroll Heaven would be even money for the HOY award after another win in the Tattersalls pace in 1:48.1, his been very consistent all year and his last 5 to 6 races have produced some good times.

I just don't think that a two year old should be HOY under almost all circumstances. The only type of situation where I think that might be warranted would be a horse like Albatross who not only totally dominated his class from beginning to end, but also miraculously took on and defeated "Saturday Night Specials" at Roosevelt Raceway despite being handicapped by the eight hole. Most records can be obliterated, but I am reasomnably sure that we will never again see a two year old who takes and then defeats high class veterans at a major race track.

Its hard only seeing these horses race on the computer but correct me if i'm wrong Well Said seemed to be the bigger of the two and i thought was a better looking horse, who had the best conformation out of the two.

Here's what I can say conformation wise Heaven is perfect stands straight paces straight nothing to knock in that area Well said is bigger Heaven is not big by any stretch but he is wide and long with a big chest I looked him over for a while at the Jug.Heaven has done things that no one has done as a 3 year old, consecutive 1 50 and under miles also owns 3 world records for 1/2 mile 5/8 mile and fastest 2 heats ever.Raced from off the pace to the front end and has not dodge any races this year he raced 6 weeks straight and every mile was faster than the first. In my opinion Heaven is in the top 5 pacers of all time. As far as a sire only time will tell I love the fact that he is trained by Bruce Saunders an old timer. Just my opinion. Not knocking Well Said just saying why I like Heaven.

I am not knocking your opinion but you cannot even be close to putting Rocknroll Heaven in the top five! Not even close Fullerton! Oh my goodness you are really getting carried away or you must have a vested interest as although Rocknroll Heaven is the best three year old this year, he has only beaten the same bunch of horses each and every start. You cannot even hold him in the same breath as the following horses.
Niatross, Nihilator, Cam Fella, Artsplace, Somebeachsomewhere to mention just five.

How long have those surveyed been following the sport? Five years, maybe. Aside from the colts Thomas mentioned, consider the fact that years ago colts not only faced stiffer competition within their division, but also often raced against tough older horses: Albatross beat A-1 pacers at Roosevelt as a 2 year old. Rocknroll Heaven is HOY hands down, as far as I'm concerned, but he hasn't been tested nearly enough to jump him ahead of colts like Bret Hanover, Albatross and Laverne Hanover. Forget about time; when you cross eras it means nothing.

Even though a lot of them sire's you mentioned were before i got invovled in Harness Racing i've read a lot about them in books and found some handy information on google. Its a pitty someone doesn't do a dvd of the 20 best 3yo colts of all time as it would be interesting to see how every one ranks them.

That is a valid point Joe I will agree but I have also spoke to a lot of old timers of the sport . I am 50 years old been around since I am 10 so that's what I can say about how far I go back .It's just my opinion as I have stated over and over.By the way Joe I hope you are right about the people on the survey it would mean new blood in the sport that's what we need .

I agree with Joe Fitz. When it comes to surveys it is a fashion business so it is always current top horses rule. The fact is that Rocknroll Heaven is a great three year old but not in the top five of all time, not even close. I by no means are knocking the horse as I said he is the best three year old this year by far. Just a shame that he is going to stud so early. It is no wonder our game is closing down fast world wide. We are just killing off all harness racing fans with these horses going to stud so early. A horse is not even mature until he is a five year old. How good would our game be for the fans if these horses race until thay are a bit older.

Hi Thomas
I agree and in a past post i suggested they must race untill there 5yr old season before going to stud, i know Shark Gesture broke down and went to stud and then returned to racing but i liked seeing him race as an older horse. Look at Artsplace, Art Major, Real Desire and years ago Falcon Seelster they all raced at 4yrs and left there mark in the breeding barn, and then youv'e got horses who raced even longer Four Starzzz Shark, Lis Mara, Artistic Fella and Western Ideal. How good would it of been if Somebeachsomewhere or Well Said raced in there 4yr old season as people loved watching these horses race and i think if they had of raced for another year it would of been better for the sport.

For what it's worth, I think that Rock n Roll Heaven is a most deserved Horse of the Year candidate and could hardly have done me to secure the award. However, in terms of all time greatness, I feel that the quality of his competiton this year lacks the depth of other great 3YO crops. One wonders how the season would have panned out had Sportswriter not succumbed to injury. Sadly we will never know and apart form One more Laugh, credible challengers to Rock n Roll Heaven have been hard to find.

11-20-2010, 12:52 AM
Thomas is 100% right that these horse's need to race till five, now horses are just going to stud because they are bred well.My problem with Sports Writer he never won a race outside of Canada or on a different track he won all his races on one track. Heaven is still in my top five.

Hi Fullerton
Here's my prediction for the awards and i could be way off the mark but from an Aussie point off view and what i got to see i'll have a go,
2yr old filly
I would vote for Idyllic over See you at Peelers, my reason for this is that Idyllic raced in most of the big ones and even though See you at Peelers won more races most of them were sire's stakes races besides the Breeders crown.
2yr old colt
Big Jim gets my vote here as he won a couple of big ones and is now the fastest 2yr old in the world. Looking at him race he always looked like a 3yr old to me so i'm expecting him to have a big year next year.
3yr old filly
Put on a Show should take this one out.
3yr old colt
Rocknroll Heaven hands down he will also be voted pacer of the year and horse of the year.
Mare of the Year
Dreamfair Eternal
Open Horse
I think Won the West might just take this one out over Shark Gesture but it will be close. I think Shark Gesture was going great untill he unfortunatly broke down.

Fullerton,
Absolutely not. Rock N Roll Heaven has clearly stamped himself Horse Of The Year over the past couple of months. Hands down. I was a bit premature in my earlier statements. Unfortunately for Horse Of The Year voting, the 3 year old pacers have the greatest chance of standing out amongst the other classes. While most of the other divisions are done with stakes racing by the middle of October, the 3 year old pacers still had the Messenger, Matron, Progress Pace. Most of the other divisions just had one.
Rock N Roll Heaven clearly demonstrated his dominance within his division and is a great pacer. The question is....how does he compare with the past 3 year old pacing champions....
