I just noticed that Nostra Villa has been sold to NSW
You would think that she should have cost a pretty penny
Although U59 has not been a strong family, this Art Major mare could become a valuable broodmare when she finishes racing with nothing but quality sires throughout her pedigree
She is not a one off either as dam Crystal Journey also produced Gp1er Mister Jadore

Net Ten Eom is a sire I had not noticed before (has a winner in Van Niekerk at Bendigo tonight)

He has 1.49.4 to his name as a 3yo but only won $140k US
He was bred in the purple however being by Triple millionaire Somebeachsomewhere out of Double millionaire Glowing Report. Glowing Report is also a full sis to Well Said's dam Must See. And Must See is also the 2nd dam of Emerald Stride (recent 2yo Redwood winner)
The family U115 was insignificant until Grand Lady 1993 came along (the source of all the above)

He has been given his chance in NZ with 38 of racing age and 31 more on the ground. His fertility was poor but has improved since a terrible 2017
Unfortunately this is likely to be of no avail as he is yet to produce a notable performer
You can explore some more from this classicfamilies link if you are interested

We've had 2 Racing Hill yearlings complete their second prep and the reports are that they both go very nicely! Looks like RH throws a nice type. Anyone else have a Racing Hill foal anecdote?

What happened to Huntsville US who served 205 mares for 130 foals for Empire Stallions in 2018-19?

I notice that Yirribee stud has some great discount on most of their stallions this year due to the virus. I hope other studs take notice.
Well done to them.

Hi Noel

I think you will find that there a lot of things in place to make the stud season work, the studs are making every effort to make sure everything works, please don't be negative.

Breeding horses requires HEAPS of patience.
Reading the article about the Ronans

https://www.thetrots.com.au/news/articles/trots-centre-can-son-connor-shine-while-dads-in-the-sunshine/

I looked up Yes Mate who, as mentioned in the article, is making his debut in R1 at Echuca tonight
He is the only foal of one of their mares who has been served by some commercial sires but who was it that got the positive - the home breeder Daroobalgie.
Daroobalgie had a good record but as a Nuke Of Earl son out of Mistress Monique, an Apollo Eleven mare, there was no miracle and he is a very modest sire
If you have never heard of Apollo Eleven, that might be because Mistress Monique ($83k) was his only progeny to pay her way

Apollo Eleven was a very good Simpson-bred horse trained by Kevin Newman in the early 70s. Golden Adios - Minnesota from memory, stood at lower profile studs. Did leave 34 winners Kev, if you look deeper. His dam, foaled nearly 70 years ago, followed him to Sydney in the early 50s and was a very good producer. Royal State was a Showgrounds regular for Alf Simons when I was a kid, Apollo Eleven won 50 grand when that would have built you a luxury home, his sister Admin was a good Sydney trotter, Karamea Minna was a top filly and producer, Miner Karamea was handy in WA. I had an early association with Minnesota Express, her last foal dropped when she was 23. He was very fast but used to favour his knee. The small tracks back then didn't suit him, he would be a good horse today.

I know the fastest he ever went was 85 MPH. That was in a single float behind a Phase II Falcon GT on the Loddon Valley Highway, running a little late to get to Nyah for his first win. That was 44 years ago this month, l love how the old names keep popping up!

Yonkers, NY — While numbers can often be manipulated to support almost any opinion, in the case of stallion Huntsville and his progeny, it’s impossible to see anything but success with his first crop. As sire of seven of the 16 rookie pacers set to compete on Friday (Sept. 10) in the $1.6 million New York Night of Champions at MGM Yonkers Raceway, Huntsville has arrived in a big way.

Led by multiple-leg New York Sire Stakes winners Stretch The Line, Pickup Man Hanover and Just Divine, Huntsville, who stands at Cameo Hills Farm in New York, has an opportunity to capture both $200,000 finals for 2-year-old pacers.

Huntsville hasn’t just been in a “New York State of Mind” in 2021. His foals sit third in total earnings and fourth in average earnings per start by 2-year-old pacers nationally. His Caviart Camden recently became the fastest freshman pacing colt in history when stopping the timer at The Red Mile in 1:48.3.

Race four on Friday is the third of eight $200,000 finals for 2- and 3-year-olds of both gaits and sexes. It features freshman colt and gelding pacers travelling one mile to determine the Empire State champion. Four sons of Huntsville will line up behind the gate in a field of eight, and they are arguably led by the aforementioned Stretch The Line in terms of talent.

Our Cavort (Cavort NZ) had one 2yo start in NZ before starting her Oz career with a win for the Sugars on debut at Ballarat
I bet they wish they kept her.
Not so much for her other 14 wins (all but one in SA)
Our Cavort is the dam of Encipher
Her SA trainer Tyson Linke somehow ended up as her owner for the last of those wins - her last start
He is the breeder and sole owner of Encipher and the sole recipient of the majority of the $300k 2yo fillies Breeders Crown

If you have big bucks to spend at the yearling sales and can wait a couple of years, here is an alternative for you
Buy the dam of Princess Tiffany in foal to a full sibling

After the King's win tonight in this his last season of racing before going to stud, they suggested that as a son of Rocknroll Hanover he will be in demand and could even go to the US
It would be 1000/1 as Rocknroll Hanover's best siring sons - Rock N Roll Heaven, Pet Rock and Rockin Image are not even featured stallions on the USTA's stallion showcase

Maybe the 3yo season of Betting Line's first crop will be the making of him as a sire downunder?
First starter at Shep tonight Our Lola Mae could not be more impressive winning by 30m untouched in 1.55.4, that is only 2.9 secs off the Tk Rec
Whether it is the Betting Line blood or the mare we may never know - Lola is a half sis to Milly Perez

Wanting to clarify something here

'No Return' for a mare means that the breeder did not file a return and so we do no know if the mare - missed, slipped, foal died, or a foal was born but they have no intention of registering it

I am asking this as a question

After another impressive win by Vacation Hill tonight I thought I would look up her dam to see if she has produced anything else of note and I see several years of No Return between Vacation Hill in 2016 and an Unregistered (as yet) colt in 2021

Is there a reason a breeder would not supply a return for the stud book or have I got this completely wrong

John French, Registrations Officer HRNZ, very kindly promptly replied to my email and it is as I thought - NO RETURN means they haven’t been notified of the result of a service.

It would seem to me that examples such as that in post 21 could not happen in the Australian Thoroughbred Stud Book due to the following rule:

4.15 The Australian Stud Book cannot accept a Mare Return for a broodmare which has a missing return for the previous season and which has not been out of Australia during that period.

Shartin N has filly by Captaintreacherous
What can be assumed to be the best-bred pacing filly in the world was foaled on Sunday (Feb. 13) when world champion and Harness Horse of the Year Shartin N gave birth to a filly sired by world champion and Pacer of the Year Captaintreacherous.

http://ustrottingnews.com/shartin-n-has-filly-by-captaintreacherous/

Exciting but Best Bred?
If you take out Shartin ($2.5m) I am not sure Tintin In America has sired another winner of $200k (not one on ClassicFamilies at least)

Derby winner Leap To Fame sure does look the goods. He may be the one that convinces me that Bettors x Art Major mare is a good cross. I know it has produced Tall Dark Stranger and Max Delight but a couple more would be good. Art Major x Bettors mare could also do with a few more as at present Our Princess Tiffany is the only real standout

I noticed that after serving on average 150 mares for each of his first 3 seasons Captaintreacherous's book has halved for the last 3 seasons - ??? - Price or people steering clear of the hit or miss nature of Frozen semen
