Chris Lewis gives Mirragon a chance

But if Magnificent Storm is the real deal, which times suggest, a horse that did not win a Vic metro race as a 3yo, cannot beat him

This is the 40th running of the Golden Nugget. I was privileged to have got a free flight to Perth on the Ansett Air Freight Locheed Electra chartered by the WATA to bring over the four "Eastern Staters". Those four were the ultimate winner Justin Hanover and trainer Tony Peacock, Tiger Apollo (Don Guy), Crystal Glenmar (George Turner) and Sydneysider Allears (Reg Wilkes). I escorted a couple of NZ purchases, a 2yo colt and a 3yo gelding bound for Phil Coulson and Fred Kersley respectively.
The format for the series was like a mini Inter-Dominion; two rounds of heats and the $30,000 final. It was sponsored by Channel Nine, so media coverage was huge. It was really the first proper 4yo national feature. This was during the days of Ray Holloway's management of the WATA and the crowds were huge.
It was a pity they couldn't lure another Eastern States 4yo named Gammalite onto the plane, it would have been an even bigger event. Twelve months later I went back to Perth for the real Inter-Dominion series where another horse of that same, now 5 year old, crop named Popular Alm drew the crowds. But that is another story for another time!

I'm a little confused too Kevin just like your little image. According to the records, Magnificent Storm has only had 14 starts non in Vic could you refer me to the Vic starts.
The Golden Nugget field is as good as you would get anywhere in Australia. Three GP winners recorded times in the 1:54s last night 2 over 2536 metres 1 over 2130 metres.
GP at this time of the year can be super fast. Probably the fastest 804-metre track in the world.

You are amalgamating my posts and in what I think must be an attempt at sarcasm, talking about MS and Vic starts?????!!!!!!
Post 1 - saying Mirragon should not be a chance of beating Magnificent Storm based on Mirragon being a bit behind the leading 3yo's in Vic
Post 2 - Scratching Head emoji, amazed that horses can have such tough runs in fast races and still fight out the finish, most of this amazement is about how far horse's in Oz have improved
You would have seen the race where Vampiro set the Tk Rec of 1.54.1 where they were a bit strung out at the finish after Bletchley Park ran them along and Vampiro had the cushiest of runs
You are right to compare to the other 2536m race and once again you will have seen Talktomeurmajesty act like a pace maker and again none of the contenders spent any time off the fence
That is where the Golden Nugget stood out because the first two drew badly and did some serious work - they are obviously serious horses (their record was already there to see)
Of course it was a quality field (the reason for the thread) but if you wanted a Vic rep (thinking non Covid times) not that that was what Mirragon was, you would find better than Mirragon
ps Mirragon ran admirably

Sorry Kev you were obviously talking about Mirragon not being able to beat Magnificent Storm on the horse's unplaced runs in Vic and you were right.

Thought that was about as obvious as live televised draws not being rigged...

We all tend to skim/speed read nowadays and that sentence of mine with the link breaking it up was a bit clumsy
