3yo Breeders Crown heats at Bendigo tonight
3 for the fillies and 3 for the C&Gs
Not many need to be eliminated as semi's are next
Heat 2 for the boys have a big advantage as it was smallest heat and with the 2 scratchings (including Bar Room Banta) 8 of the 10 will qualify

Kerryn got a QDT for her drive on Treachery in the 3rd fillies heat tonight.
I suppose the stewards were wondering if she was only willing to hand up to a stablemate?

3 of the heats were processions but the other 3 were really good races

You have to say Joanna beat Ladies fair and square, Ladies may have been denied the death/lead but she got the 1x1 easily (stablemate was never going to prevent that)
The Final has the potential to be an outstanding race, it would be great if it was next week, hopefully the semi's and draw are fair on all the fillies

Busy yesterday, I just caught the replays of the 2yo Fillies heats
Irish was clearly the slowest overall but is anyone going to bet against her
The first 4 were all impressive in the next and I don't think Amore will start that much shorter than the Stewart trio next time they meet
I liked Relentless Me's 3rd in the next and while Encipher was tough in the last heat, Playing Up made up an incredible amount of ground to upset her

I will catch up with the boys heats when I get home from Melbourne but Michael Howards article covers them superbly

Looking at the Semi draws

http://www.harness.org.au/racing/fields/race-fields/?mc=MX131121

2yo C&G : Beach Villa and Anotherbigman got the perfect draws and Hes Charlies Angel should be happy probably coming out of 4. Brutally Handsome not so lucky with 11 and Catch A Wave who is now ODM has 12 in the other but that wont stop him

2yo Fillies : 9 shouldn't be too bad for Irish Black Label but 1-4 would all be happy. Heat performers have all drawn well in 2,3,5,6 in the other Semi

3yo C&G : 9 for Major Moth too but that should be OK with the rest of the talent off the front in 4,5,6,7 which might make it a little tricky for Yambukian (7). Act Now has drawn beautifully with 4 in the other Semi while 11.Beyond Delight will have to contend with coming from 10

3yo Fillies : Beach Music 3 and Joanna 5 would be happy but not so much Tough Tilly with 12. In the other Semi Ladies In Red is another who should find the trailing draw 9 OK

JB is writing up tonight's semi between Twist and Ladies as important

https://www.thetrots.com.au/news/the-forum/bonnington/bonnington-pride-on-the-line-in-grand-trans-tasman-battle/

I would be expecting David Moran on Ladies to be doing the bare minimum to qualify realizing the grand final is not until next week

Not the start that the Stewart stable would have expected - 4 starters in R1 and none qualified (first 6)

Lauriston (our Bonnie) and David Moran has not had the greatest of nights - he had 4 drives for them and won well with Beach Music but favourites Beach Villa and Irish Black Label did not even qualify top 6, while if we didn't already know, Ladies is going to have a big task in the final with Better Twist and her stablemates. The draws are going to be super important (Tune in 7pm Monday night)

You would think that Emma Stewart having 9 of the 12 2yo fillies Finalists would have to be a record

I can remember when Chris Alford was the Stewart stable's number 1 driver
Last night the stable had 30 starters and Chris only had 1 drive for them
He has qualified Anotherbigman for them
and I figure he will be on Beach Music as David Moran will stick with Ladies
He has Amore Vita for Nathan Purdon in the 2yo fillies
And he might be back on Tuppence as Greg Sugars will stay on Beyond Delight
so I figure we will see him in all 4 finals - as we should

$81, $101, $19, $31 - these were the odds of Kerryn Manning's Breeders Semi drives and she qualified them all
She won with the last of them and to top off the night drove a $146 winner
(her only other drive ran 2nd)

Sounds Perfect to start a short favourite at only her 3rd start after poor draws for so many of the other favoured runners

He needed to find another rather than put in Menin Gate trained by disqualified Larry Eastman

I just noticed that Tough Tilly is out of the 3yo fillies Final.
She had a difficult task from that draw but it is still a big out
Chris Alford didn't get the drive on Beach Music - Amanda Turnbull is down for one drive

With the scratching they could get Kate Gath and save Amanda Turnbull the trip

I only watched the last 4 races live on TrotsVision and caught up with the replays of the others in between races (two 5hrs TrotsVision sesssions on consecutive days would be a bit much)
But it was certainly a great lead up to tomorrow night
Tango toughed it out but General Dodge lost no admirers
The Gaths new NZer was luckless and brave.
Im Ready Jet blitzed them and Dennis William's win coming 4wide suggested that he is probably going to make a topliner

Why on earth would Beach Music run along so quick and wreck its chances. 63 first half last week but 57 first half this week says a lot.

Honolua Bay - what an exciting future
Aldebaran Zeus - a professional
Just A Bit Touchy - Bred in the purple and has WOW factor
Plymouth Chubb - how many 2yo trotters win 11 in a row
Catch A Wave - if he mentally matures he will be a super Superstar
Act Now - he is a Star (and a colt!)
Ladies In Red - simply The Best
Encipher - one tough filly
Queen Elida - her third Gp1 in 20 starts
Maajida - her 20th win

The Best night of racing ever but even so, I wonder whether it shouldn't be over 2 weeks (split trotters and pacers?) as by the end of the night my brain had almost had too much of a good thing

Honolua Bay - what an exciting future love his dam National Gallery. Came from off the pace and went 28.4qtr 2nd start as a 3yo filly in the Wagga Oaks on the old 800m sauce
Aldebaran Zeus - a professional
Just A Bit Touchy - Bred in the purple and has WOW factor
Plymouth Chubb - how many 2yo trotters win 11 in a row Fantastic for the indistry
Catch A Wave - if he mentally matures he will be a super Superstar What a horse hope he keeps this form as he gets older
Act Now - he is a Star (and a colt!) Agreed
Ladies In Red - simply The Best Fantastic
Encipher - one tough filly Captaintreacherous gets both the 2yo finals! Hopefully this time next yr another 2yo filly of his is winning it too...:o
Queen Elida - her third Gp1 in 20 starts Fantastic! Lees 3 2nds in the trotters gotta be tough to take for them especially the 1st Alford nutted them on line
Maajida - her 20th win

The Best night of racing ever but even so, I wonder whether it shouldn't be over 2 weeks (split trotters and pacers?) as by the end of the night my brain had almost had too much of a good thing
I was thinking myself earlier how it seems like overload but then thought its about the only positive point of difference we have from other racing codes that we have divisions like this and how our horses race so often we can afford to have multiple features on one night like this. I think its my favourite full meeting of the year, maybe not quite so much when it was the consolations rather than the trotting races supporting it (coming from someone who isn;t the biggest fan of juvenile trotters)

It was a great night. The class young horses all together made for great viewing and drama.
Top marks to all involved in putting on a terrific show.

The complete dominance, 6 from 6, of the pacing sires: Mach Three, his son Somebeachsomewhere and grand-son Captaintreacherous was unique.

Stewards Report only contains:
Amanda Turnbull, driver of Beach Music, will be questioned regarding the tactics adopted on the filly whilst leading.

The stewards clearly spent plenty of time grilling Sofia Arvidsson (with the benefit of hindsight) after R5 but had no time for Amanda after R7 ????

John Nicholson managing to take one of the Silver Crowns off the Stewart stable may give the rest of the state’s trainers some little encouragement to continue
