Rob says in his Form Analysis:

The big query is the first 2yo’s of this season that are taking on the older horses in SERGEANT LOU (1) and MY BUCKS NIGHT (2). Both pacers are well bred and are showing good ability at the trials, providing they can handle their first race experience expect strong showings.

Some amazing quarters coming out of WA for the 2yos lately.
56.8 last half for a filly on Monday at Pinjarra, 56.5 the week before.

“I think she’s something special, she’s pretty good. She came home in 54.8 and it was only her second start in a race. I think she’s really, really good.”

A good start for sire Control The Moment (although I am not sure what has become of him - looking at his Fertility, in 3 seasons he had 20 foals and 20 miss)

and here is the other one (a Downbytheseaside)

Lux Aeterna a full sis to Captain Crusader and a ¾ sis to Crunch Time

It is interesting to note that the dams of No.'s 1 & 5 are full sisters

RBD for the 2yo and up maiden at Melton. Usually they are drawn by age. I like the RBD

Due to the decline in foal numbers over the years they now don't have enough 2yo's to make up a race ! Expect to see it more often.

Would also think there is less pressure on getting 2yos to race in Feb compared to previously as well so would have an impact on numbers at the races. Now have 3 months tacked on to the end of the season with many features later in the year.

The NSWHRC paid a fortune of its members money to buy the Southern Hemisphere breeding rights and the horse stood at Yirrabee Stud for its first two seasons. For some reason, it fired blanks which resulted in only 75 Australian foals. NZ breeders fared even worse with only 19 2yos resulting from 75 matings. Only 8 mares were bred to him the following season as word spread quickly that something was seriously amiss.

NSWHRC, desperate to cut its losses and save some face, bundled the horse off to a reluctant Alabar. Alabar was smart enough to stand the horse in NZ's more moderate climate where he covered 108 mares for 54 live foals (50% fertility) and covered 124 in the just completed season.

Alabar has improved Lazarus' fertility rate from totally uncommercial to poor or borderline commercial.

Nobody will be surprised that Lazarus Sires quality winners. The question remains would you chace your money to breed to him with the knowledge you have only a coin toss chance of getting a live foal?

A 2yo race at GD on Saturday night for $3k

https://www.harness.org.au/racing/fields/race-fields/?mc=GD110323#GDC11032309

The crazy thing about it is that this is the second of 3 heats, this one has attracted 5 starters - 2 who went around in last weeks heat of only 4 starters, even with one heat to be held next week, probably all are going to get a start in the final if they want it. These tiny fields will not attract much punting - a preliminary/warm up followed by the Kindergarten Stakes may have been the go (easy in hindsight, I know)

ps Just Callme Torque is odds on fav for the second week in a row

A good weekend for Vincent, with Hammer Dan winning at Melton and Tembie winning at Globe Derby. Both won easy; Tembie (out of a Live Or Die mare) leading all the way by 16.5 metres in 1:58.5 and Hammer Dan (from a Big Jim mare) by 11 metres in 1:56.3 after death-seating all the way. Admittedly, Tembie beat only a poor 4 horse field but was impressive.

Interesting to note Hammer Dan is now with Andy Gath after having his first two starts for Nathan Jack. Anybody know why?

Vincent is now holding his own as a sire, a difficult task for an Aussie-bred and resident stallions. After watching Sherlock beat Merlin on his merits last night at Alexandra Park I get the feeling he will remain a commercially relevant stallion.

A sound run today but I see what you mean about there being plenty of depth in WA's 2yo ranks this year
The winner and the well bred 3rd horse finished very strongly

It'd be easier to race my boy in open age races. Not often do they go 1.55 in a L1/3 3yo+ race 😱 . It's tough out there for the little kids

I just now realized I missed Brought To Light at GP again on Friday night (the football really threw my routines)
That little kid of yours would have broken 1.56 himself with his 3rd Katie.
He is having an impressive 2yo season

Super unlucky Katie, a flat tyre from just about the get go - no point wasting the horse after that

**** Brought To Light has drawn 1 and is on the second line of favouritism in the $150k Gp1 Golden Slipper tomorrow night

Edit - on TAB he is on the sixth line at $13, I did think there were some very competitive horses around him

Wouldn't it ever change the race completely! why haven't they put one in already? He was bolting at the end, Deni's drive to keep him in with the stablemate to his outside just too good.

Two 2yo races at Hamilton tomorrow

A couple of somewhat unusual sires represented.
You don't see many young Tinted Cloud's nowadays although he somehow has 22 in this crop! One SA winner so far and this is only the 3rd to race
And the good broodmare Tiz Herself has her last foal debuting - by Cullens Hope (not a sire that you see very often)

Fancy Free was impressive winning on debut in cold blustery conditions at Hamilton
She nevertheless rated 1.54.6 despite being allowed to drop back at the start and still having plenty to learn
She is a big strong daughter of Downbytheseaside out of the capable Art Major mare Spokeswoman

Looking at Fancy Free's race again, I noticed that the leader Soho Vesper Linde, who dropped out to run last, is out of the good mare Soho Madeleine so I did a little research to see if she had left anything of note yet. She has only had one other to the races - now a 3yo who has won 2 races. What caught my eye is that SVL who only has one third to her name has won more than the double winner sibling. How can that be I think, more research - SVL ran 4th of 5 in the only fillies heat of the APG back in April which was good enough to get her into the final at Menangle where she ran Last but pocketed $10k

It is hard to believe that we have two $40k 2yo races at Melton tonight and NO Stewart runners
