It is the first Vic 2yo race of the season at Maryborough on Wednesday

The first two Ride High's go around - a good showing could not hurt his prices at the remaining yearling sales

NSW has its third 2yo race of the season today (Newcastle and Riverina have had one) with some excellent breeding on show

Soho Trump is all the rage in the betting but A Buck Ten is certainly bred in the purple

San Sebastion is certainly worth a look also.

Oh most definitely Phil

It is going to be interesting to see if Art Major and Bettors Delight can finally produce a REAL successor

At this stage I would much rather gamble (not so much a gamble going on stats) on yet another Somebeachsomewhere line successor

Bronte Nieuwenburg has done a comprehensive write up of the Maryborough 2yo

https://www.thetrots.com.au/news/articles/2025-victorian-two-year-old-racing-kicks-off-tomorrow-at-maryborough/

If we select according to sire - we would have to go Heavenly Nicky as Rock N Roll Heaven is easily the best performed sire

If we select according to broodmare - we would go Maxo Mighty as Princess Dilinger has been an outstanding producer

Menangle today was a case of the money being right, Soho Trump wins but only just, A Buck Ten went enormous. San Sebastion was reasonable. The rest will need to improve, and you can pretty well expect them to.
Babies running 1:54.5 on debut is something I never thought would be seen in Australia!

Today's Maryborough 2yo has only 6 horses. 2 are scratched so 4 runners. Sums up the industry atm.

WA's feature 2year old races have already started. Announcement to bring them forward was made in December, too late for trainers to even get their horses ready in time if they weren't already in work.

Ideal Beach was much too good for my Fear The Storm (4th) in the colts
Ma Petite Dame much too good in the fillies but I cannot say I am a fan of driver Kyle Symington's unnecessary and excessive attempts at headbutting the one behind him

If it wasn't for a scratching, Sundons Courage would have had 4 of his crop of 12 going around

8 starters but only 3 trainers represented with Brad and Chris Angove having 3 each and Mark Hayes 2

We have three first season sires represented in
Helpisontheway
Six Pack
and Muscle M Up

Tonight at Bathurst we had 7 odds on favourites ranging from $1.04 to $1.55

You have to wonder how it was determined that they were such certainties as in Total the 7 horses had only had 11 starts before tonight

How punting has changed in my time - taking $1.04 about a 2yo at its first start LOL

Hi Kev .
So how are the fields made up ? Unreal that 7 odds on horses were in different races , so they must be selected .
Some huge margins in the races , especially from 3rd onwards .

PP has a story on these heats.
I have to agree with what he says.

What is the point of going to the yearling sales?
What is the point of training?
What is the point of racing?

There is no future in a monopoly.

Just like I borrow some of PP's stories, he borrows some of mine ;)
Although he was probably going to write this one too

I kept mine very brief and decided to put it in the Roadshow thread for like PP I think it is one of the issues that need addressing.

What a huge ask for Nocturnal to come to Melton 6 days after his first start at Menangle last night
While the Vics do not have to travel and have 7 days recovery

It sure is but Blake gets them fit , so he should be fine . Time will tell though.

Then I remembered Emma Stewart won all the heats in vic.

It was Nutrien Finals for both the 2yo's and 3yo's but I will put it here
and 4 different stables win !
We are so used to seeing the Stewart stable dominate.
Admittedly they were unlucky not to win two as Cardigan Dan went terrific after a drive from Cam Hart which I think he would like to have again - mind you it was hard to make sense of David Moran's drive which stitched Cam up
