This mare trialed tue 27th Dec ( 8 days ago) & i honestly was supprised to see her in at Menangle on Friday.....I thought something had gone amiss with her as she trialed very ordinary . She dropped out of the trial after doing no work , even after being smacked on a few occasions the rest ran away from her, beaten 28 mtrs & they didnt break any track records . I'M NOT HAVING A GO AT ANYONE JUST SAYING I AM SUPPRISED SHES RACING FRI .

It will be a good training feat if she can turn that poor trial around.

Id suggest there was a good reason behind that trial failure - maybe she was in season??

A week earlier she trialled very well being beaten a neck and going 1.54

Good point Mighty, we all know how mares can be on one day, completely off the next. It was an average trial on face value though.

Maybe she's trained on since then, maybe Luke upped her work and plus the fact that the race is worth $22k and the field is only a fair with respect that McCarthy's expecting improvement.

As you said, the week before she trialled good in .54 so hopefully she's back on the job tomorrow.

Thats correct in she did trial in 1.54.6 & yes maybe she was in season but on face value (as Nathan said) I would have been disappointed if she went that far backwards , 7 days after the first trial .

I understand the Banjo can take many years to master.
Why don't you take a shot at playing... the Lagerphone?

Why are people denegrating the comments of another member. A question was raised about a form reversal at a trial. There was input, suggesting the mare may have been in season? Well that could be true, whatever the reason, time will tell. Maybe the first trial flattened the horse, or many other reasons. When doing the form for friday, you should only go on the last performance unless you know otherwise? The best advise is to stay out of the race????

The insanity of the inferences from old mate and the rest of the peanut gallery are two-fold.
Firstly, even if her trial was not particularly sparkling, she was in with 2 other very handy Luke McCarthy trained mares, no less than (Our) Sixpence (1:55.5 & a slate of 39-11-5-2 & $161,657 banked) who won it and Lady Euthenia (1:53.3 & a slate of 34-21-4-0 & $449,065 banked) who finished 3rd also in handy enough time. To top that off, Lilac Stride is exactly not some no name mare. Admittedly she will be 1st up from a spell BUT this will be after stringing 5 or 6 impressive wins together at the end of her last prep. when in against her own sex &/or sex & age group including taking out the 4yo+ Mares Breeders Crown in slashing style. It is not as though this is a mare that has done nothing to date. She's got a 1:54.4 mark, a slate of 47-15-12-7 & $245,448 banked. Big surprise if she wins? Some great training effort to do so off the back of one so so trial? Gimme a break.

Good idea Ron, you've gotta watch the old triple, if you don't agree with him he'll brand you an idiot/straw man/6 fingered banjo player/cello player in a marching band etc. And whatever you do, don't get all riled up and retaliate, that'll just lead to disbarment.

Geez Ron you've got a fair memory, I thought we were the only ones to remember the little horse. Brian is my Dad, the horse you are thinking of was Sedate's Pride, a tiny lttle Chestnut stallion who epitomised the old pharse about " it's not the size of the dog in the fight, it's the size of the fight in the dog".

He was a terrific horse to us, won about a dozen races, several of which were at Tamworth on the old circle track. I actually drove my first two winners on the little fella at Tamworth as well, (16yo....man did I think I was a genious! ha ha took me while to work out that it was more the horse than the driver )

Bit like some of the clowns on here, dunno how many of them have ever worked a horse much less actually had a licence, trained and driven half decent winners, very small percentage I think. It often reminds me of that Banjo Patterson poem " riders in the stand"

anyway thats enough of a whinge from me, thanks for remembering the little horse, like I said he was very good to us all those years ago.

Cheers,

Dan

Sorry Greg, I didn't mean to offend anyone really, just shooting from the hip, as I'm prone to do every now and then. Without breeders and particularly owners we would not have a game full stop. The punters might tell you something similar, but theres a few of us that are mugs enough to still keep racing horses for fun/ribbons as we would be without the punters. There are a couple a very opiniated people on this forum that are a dead set pain if you're not in their camp, and I was more having a bit of a dig at them, not the whole forum community.

Cheers,

Dan

Quite the contrary

I think that after reading some earlier member's doubts ,it probably reinforces their suspicions
5 races with runners
5 wins including a trifecta, and quinella

[VVV] Geeze Andy, not only have you gone and dudded Rex out of his life sized image cast in Bronze & placed prominently upon the lawn but you've briefly tagged John with a life sized Brass number, one which has subsequently been melted down and reformed in the image of the Man from Eglington.;) Luke's team went great today. Somewhat of a reckoning occurred out there today when Lilac Stride saluted. Let's hope that Denny had a few dollars on her as I believe he needs some new bottle caps for his Lagerphone.

I thought this mare was a touch stiff tonight (Menangle 28.01.12)

Sat parked for the first three 1/4's (27.6 / 28.4 / 27.8), got a sneaky in behind leader for a furlong before the top of the lane and then still had the audacity to only go down in the shadows of the post (28.2 final for overall 1.52)

Outstanding run in my opinion as the race never backed off and her performance was tip top.

Last week I was really disappointed in her after being in the one/one trail and couldn't get near Our Torias Secret in1.54.6 much to the delight of a couple of people on the other side of the ditch. Seemed to me she got every chance again tonight especially with the breather she got. Strike Up The Band ran right up to his usual 1.52.0 and Matty Rue steered him faultlessly. Haven't sacked her yet but its getting closer.

Judging by your comments Brad and assessing this weeks fields, you might be then a run closer to sacking Lilac Stride after she drew terrible in 9.

Our Sixpence drew three (3) with the EM if/when comes out so will start from two (2). You'd have to think she'll be the Our Torias Secret of this week.

I still think Lilac Stride went well the other night, those first three (3) quarters sitting parked would have taken some sting off her, hard to do it for four (4) quarters in sub 28.5.

Our Sixpence though this week for mine from the draw and her win the other night was nice. McCarthy punched her out sharp. She'll be good to go for this week in my opinion.
