Whether they start at the Mile or 2300m, the guys out there aren't racing until the half. Enough time to get yourself a lager and not miss a thing.

Spot on! In just about 75% of the races at Menangle, the winner is coming from the first three horses at the 400 metre mark! My par times for an MO 1609 at Menangle are 27.3; 30.1; 29.3; 27.5 for 1:54.2. If the leaders get to the 400 in slower than 1:26.7 then forget about anything coming from back in the pack to win unless there is a bias against the rails and leaders present. This happened on 07/11/2011 just after the track was top dressed.
