In many interviews I have heard regarding Racing of all codes, interviewees often commence their answers to questions posed with the words..Yea..No or Yeah..Nah.
What do you suppose thay mean by these utterances..??????

Its like the modern day Ummmmm...Uhhhhhh. Rugby league players are renowned for it.

It seems like some sort of coping mechanism whilst the brain is formulating a response.

They're acknowledging your question but are not agreeing with it .

Danny Frawley (former AFL coach) was one of first people to come out with this 'utterance'. My belief is it is like the neutral you hit between gears in a manual car, when your interviewee, is asked a question that an immediate answer is 'not quite ready', and the wheels are just spinning.

I wish I picked up a $1.00 for every time an interviewed driver or a jockey referred to their charge as "A nice little horse". I'd be living in Monaco next door to Mick Doohan.
