Hi All,
As part of a study I am doing at the moment can forum users tell me if they are members of any harness clubs and which ones? Also if you're a member of more than one club. And if not a member, why?
You're help would be much appreciated.
Ray

Was a member of the NSWHRC in the past but right now, none Don C, although I really should be. I'd like to but I rarely get any chance to go to the races on the weekends these days. Generally life's just too busy with the children/work/wife's job etc. Only ever get to go to mid week/during the day meetings when one of our horses or maybe one that we've bred or otherwise one of our friends is racing. The one and only reason is time or a great lackthereof. As such I watch a lot of races either on Sky or via replays. I didn't realise how much I missed it all until I went along to the Miracle Mile last year. That was a great night.

None. I really dont get to go to the races unless its a big night or one of our horses are in a big race.
Why? We live alt least an hour from any of the tracks and with a young family, kids and the wife come first. that being said, the kids have started taking a greater interest..:):)
I am a member at Addington and next season will also join the Canterbury Country Clubs. Why? Cheaper than paying the entry at the summer carnival racing days
Apologies I see I posted in the Aussie thread

Auckland trotting Club. Free handy parking, plus membership more valuable now with 20% reduction on spending race night. Never used Members lounge and stick to Owners and Trainers lounge. Great facilities.
I too was a member of the NSW harness racing club. I discontinued after the move to Menangle it's to far to go to often and the members don't really get anything any better than the general public there anyway.

I am not a member of any clubs. Don't know of any such memberships in the South West and Riverina.

Not a member of any club. Aussiebreno all Riverina and Southwest clubs have members, you get free entry (when they charge) and the right to vote and stand on the committee

I've never really looked to get anything over & above in return for membership dues...other than maybe a car parking spot that doesn't require of me a 4 day trek to get trackside and maybe the opportunity to buy something reasonable to eat when and if I feel the need.
On the rare occasion I do make it to trackside of a Friday or Saturday night I really don't want to sit around at a table eating and talking to people anyway. That's not the reason I went there in the first place. I've knocked back a number of very kind invites to trackside marquees & so on because while they're without doubt very, very pleasant, that's not what going to the races is all about for me. Perhaps if I went along one night with my wife I'd think about it a little differently but I'd much rather be out the front on the grass watching the racing...even if that means dinner is a steak sandwich and a beer on the run. The only trackside marquee that I LOVE to get a bait to is the one at Bathurst on Gold Crown Final Night and even then, that is me polarising around self interest because at around that time of the year in Bathurst, once the sun goes down...it can get very bloody cold and in that marquee they often have a series of rather welcome gass heaters. On that score, Danny, Marianne, if you guys are reading this, could you please save me a seat. ;)

Bunbury trotting club, even though owners passes get you into all tracks, gives you and a guest access to the members bar/lounge. Ideal in winter when it's wet and cold and good spot to get together with a group of friends and have dinner etc.

Only have membership of our home club, Blayney. Though I am thinking of extending that to include Bathurst as it makes sense whilst we have horses trialling and racing. Must admit though, if we didn't have horses, we would probably only go to two meetings a year, the Blayney ones!

Thanks everyone for your input.
Sorry Jules for having two seperate threads - I just thought there would've been a vast difference between Aust and NZ in the way membership was looked at but it appears there isn't.
Again thanks everyone.
